Default expalin shifter fork change prob?

I have a 2003 Z06
I just bought from the dealer
when I try to go to 5 th
I always seem to push into reverse?
are the gates that close?
why would they put reverse on the right?
makes more sense if they put it left of first

any way is it normal, something I have to get used to? what happened to the old days of reverse lock out? -not sure what month my car was
built-Its only got 22,000 miles
thanks

The reverse lockout solenoid is either not connected or has died.

Check your DIC for codes (do a search or look in the tech tips section for a how-to).

You need to repair this ASAP; obviously the trans will not take too many 4th to reverse shifting attempts.

Yep Your C5 has a built in scanner:

Here is another very good site:

Post the codes and have that solenoid repaired before you destroy your tranny. It should N O T be able to go into reverse until the car is almost stopped! You have a tranny issue!

Personally I hate the whole reverse right next to first nonsense that bmw has. Sure it is quicker to shift from one to the other when they are that close, but I believe having it on the right is safer and ultimately makes more sense. With it over there, you won't accidentally start in first or reverse on accident.... kinda a big deal right there. and when the lockout works correctly you can't shift into reverse when trying into 5th.
