Is there any way to tell without taking the spring off? It seemed to start ticking on the drivers side after I hit 6k the other day. I looked but can't see anything. Are the inner springs prone to breaking more than the outer? They are Patriot Golds
All I have ever seen personally is cracked ones. And you can usually turn the motor over and watch and listen and pinpoint which one then use a flashlight and find it. First thing is to pull valvecovers just to see what the hell is going on. Usually I see outers break theyre more susceptible to coil bind and are much tighter.
I have the Comp 921's with my cam and they tick as well. Unless it is a significant tick i dont think its anything to worry about. Cam only or heads/cam cars typically sound like sewing machines because they tick. I believe they tick because their is increased spring pressure when hitting the retainers. Maybe others can chime in?
you might want to check your push rods on that side. may have bent one. if you want to check the inner spring take a small punch or something like that and push on the inner and see if it moves at all

i would highly doubt u have a busted valve spring by revving it to 6k .jmo I also have a set on my car along with a 605 lift cam on the exhaust side & rev to 6500 with no issues
I posted over on LS1Tech, you seem to be having a lot of valve train issues. Is the one that is ticking in the same place that the 918 previously broke? I am wondering if you have an oil starvation issues possibly due to some dirt or something sitting on top of the lifter.

yea, I really don't think I have a oil problem. I'm starting to think I should of left it stock. It's my wifes car and she is getting pissed. I did find out that my pushrods are too short so I bought a set the correct length. I HOPE!! that will fix it. If not I'm going to pull the heads and take a look at the cam. If the cam is fine I already have a new set of lifters that I will put in. I really can't imagine that the cam is bad. I bet I only have the max of 1500 miles since the swap. I guess I am getting things figured out though. I did find out that the original 918 springs were defective. And I did find out the base circle of my cam so I know that I do need the 7.425 pushrods. If I can't seem to get it fixed you wouldn't know of a big cliff around do ya?
