Is the original battery in the 2002 Z06 an AC Delco catalog # 2277? If so should I be thinking of replacing due to the problem of leaking? Should I be concerned? Better safe than sorry.
What should i replace it with?

Reason: incorrect statement
Yes, these are the numbers for the original factory installed AGM battery. It was the standard lead acid side post battery installed in earlier model years at the factory that had the leakage issue. See following link:
AC-Delco has discontinued their AGM batteries. Many here go with an AGM battery made by other manufactures such has Optima or the Exide Select Orbital series of batteries when replacing theirs.

This is OEM and the same one I have - still going strong after more than 5 and a half years. Many of these batteries have lasted 6 years and seeing how my battery appears to be heading that way, I'd say that you are probably safe for another year. You do NOT have to worry about leaks; it is leakproof.
BTW, I spoke to an AC Delco employee recently and he told me that they have significantly strengthened their battery cases. The new AC Delco Professional batteries, even though they are not of AGM construction, have a free-replacement warranty of 50 months - best in the industry. At $90, I'd say they represent a very good deal.
I recently replaced mine with another stock one, just tell the parts counter guy you need the one with the S in the vin code for the Z so you get the lightweight battery as original.
My 2000 OEM battery lasted for 6 1/2 years before I decited to buy another. The battery had plenty of life in it, but I felt I was on borrowed time since my wifes GM car's battery was dead at 5 1/2 years.
I bought an OEM 7 year battery from the dealership for the same price of the 60 month OEM. Mine showed no sign of any leaks, or loss of power, but I felt I was on borrowed time. Since I purchaced the car in 2002, the battery would not start the car after 25 days of sitting. In the NY winter and a couple deployments, It was common for the car to sit a couple months.
By the way, the original battery is on the floor in my garage. It's been out of the car since june 2006. I just checked it for s*&ts and giggles, and its holding 12.43 volts. Anyone local need a battery is more than welcome to have it.
