Default Dyno vs Laptop tune

I had a laptop tune with a CATS (insert roman numeral here) tune done to my truck and it yielded excellent results. I've been thinking about a similar tune for my vette but i'm not ready for a full dyno tune. Would i see any decent gains from a laptop tune?

secondly, are there any members in the Houston/Spring, Texas area that can do a laptop tune?

i prefer a laptop tune for drive-ability and also max ET at the track.

A dyno tune is not bad if your a dyno queen

Not sure what a "laptop" tune is, but without a dyno and a wideband, not sure how you ever dial in the fuel/timing maps. Also, with some of the new fuels, a dyno will give more information for the tuner. The dyno will also indicate valve train problems and other issues which can be helpful.

IMO you need both...but a laptop tune is the one I would start with...

I went the opposite route! I added headers and vararam. I had a professional dyno tune done and it produced a decient result. After the MODs and before the tune my fuel economey sucked! Adding headers and Vararam really screwed up my MAF Calibration! Not to complain about the HP increase!

Before the MODs I got 29-30 MPG highway

Before the tune and after the MODs I was getting at the best 22-23 MPG.

After the tune I picked up 15 HP and was getting 25-26 MPG

I purchased EFI Live and tweaked the professional tune and got the MAF really dialed in. Now I get my OEM 28-30 MPG back!

I only have a vararam and borla catback exhaust. i plan to add more mods down the road, but for now I'm leaning towards a laptop/road tune to make sure i get the best bang for the buck with the "beginners performance parts" I can't justify getting a full on dyno tune BEFORE throwing on some heavy hardware.

so the next question, any reccomendations for people in the Houston/spring area who do laptop tunes?
