HELP ! Failed State Inspection in Texas
Guys:
I just failed the state inspection for Catalyst "NOT READY". They said I don't have cats... Thats BS cause I have Random High flow cats with the LG Pro Long Tube headers (Which I pointed out to them).
Go to “technical data base” and then to “Corvette ECM Computer Codes”. Then select your year car. Read the instructions and then scroll down to the "READ MORE" window to view the code definitions.\

How could that cause my cats to show not ready ? Could that be my problem ? I almost forgot about the code till you mentioned it. I need to get back to LG's to check the tune because I get a lean code every once and a while.
Anytime you throw a code and clear it,,, the PCM must go through a specific number of engine run cycles "WITHOUT" any codes to report "READY for the emissions test. If you just reset the code and be bop into the station for the test, the PCM will report NOT READY for the test!

Son of a
Thanks ! My problem now is that my state inspection is 2 weeks over due, and now I have to drive around to clear the code...
It has to do woth ignition cycles and making sure the engine goes through the correct heat cycles (goes into closed loop) I think its 50 cycles!
If you have the failure paper work,,,,you have 30 days to get the problems fixed and should get a free retest. They shouldnt be able to bother you if you have the fail slip. Thats how it works in CT. Read the paper work

How many miles you think it will take ?
Thanks !

I'm going on two months overdue, and my car is up on stands for a h/c and LG Street install. I'm guessing I'm going to be a couple more months overdue before I get the right Number of cycles.

On the way to the dealer this AM I threw a lean code (PCM P0171). I had to reset it. I guess that reset my pcm...:ity:
I just checked now and here is whats showing on the code list:
1.) PCM P0171 C - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank1 (Reset before safety because engine light came on)
2.) TCS C1278 H - TCS Temporarily Inhibited by PCM (Reset now)
3.) BCM B0502 H - RH DRL Relay Circuit (Reset now)
4.) BCM B0502 H - LH DRL Relay Circuit (Reset now)
5.) BCM B0502 H - Backup Lamp Relay Circuit (Reset now)
I suspect the BCM stuff is because I just had a turn signal issue where I had to have a relay in the steering column replaced because every time I turned the turn signal to the right it would blink 2x as fast. Dealer did this work BEFORE the safety inspection.
What 3 things did I fail for ? Would it be all the codes I listed above ? I guess they don't show specifics in the report above.
How long do I need to drive to clear this ? Is it number of times I start the car ? Is it miles I drive the car ?
I live in Houston and had an 03 mach 1 with two "not ready" systems(egr and evap, I believe) and still passed inspection last year. The mech. told me that the max was two not ready systems, but, if it had not had a drive cycle or had a check engine light on it would not pass.
Take the car on a nice long drive where you dont have a ton of stop lights, hwy 78 would be great since your in wylie, keep the rpm below 3000, speed below 50, the cats will reset, the EVAP system will reset when start the vehicle cold and drive it. Then you should be all good.
• Cold Start. In order to be classified as a cold start, the engine coolant temperature must be
below 50°C (122°F) and within 6°C (11°F) of the ambient air temperature at start-up. Do not
leave the key on prior to the cold start or the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.
• Idle. The engine must be run for two and a half minutes with the air conditioner on and rear
defroster on. The more electrical load you can apply the better. This will test the O2 heater,
Passive Air, Purge "No Flow", Misfire and if closed loop is achieved, Fuel Trim.
• Accelerate. Turn off the air conditioner and all the other loads and apply half throttle until
88km/hr (55mph) is reached. During this time the Misfire, Fuel Trim, and Purge Flow diagnostics
will be performed.
• Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 88km/hr (55mph) for 3 minutes. During this time
the O2 response, air Intrusive, EGR, Purge, Misfire, and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.
• Decelerate. Let off the accelerator pedal. Do not shift or touch the brake or clutch. It is important to let the vehicle coast along gradually slowing down to 32km/hr (20 mph). During this time the EGR, Purge and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.
• Accelerate. Accelerate at 3/4 throttle until 88-96 km/hr (55-60mph). This will perform the same
diagnostics as in step 3.
• Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 88km/hr (55mph) for five minutes. During this time, in addition to the diagnostics performed in step 4, the catalyst monitor diagnostics will be
performed. If the catalyst is marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5
complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst.
• Decelerate. This will perform the same diagnostics as in step 5. Again, don't press the clutch or
brakes or shift gears.
Toque, Patches just posted the "Magic Elixer" above.
I had been playing with my injectors (looking for a minor tap noise) and set a code. The manual said 40 run cycles to clear.
I went thru Patches' drive cycle twice (on the George Bush Tollway) and the Readiness tests passed, and I got my inspection done.
Give it a try.
