Default 4:10 rear gear

Does anybody regret doing a 4:10 rear gear in their M6? I'm really thinking of going that route since acceleration means much much more to me than top speed. Some of my friends are trying to talk me out of it saying I wont like it as my daily driver.... But I think it's exactly what I'm looking for.
Any regrets or opinions?

I just did the DTE Stage 1 Diff with 4.10 Gear swap and I don't regret it for a second! Daily driving habits are the same - 1st 3rd 5th from most lights, w/o any problems. I'm making sub 400whp so i don't see any Con's with doing a 4.10 swap (on a MN6 equipped car) and I only see Pro's! (Since the 4.10 swap i've never hit CAGS either - i just don't meet the conditions to trigger the CAGS event anymore... which is a plus)

I've got a few threads/posts goin about my recent 4.10 gear swap, and I think for sub 400whp setups there is no other option! I Highly reccomend this modification.

Have you friends driven a MN6 C5 w/ 4.10s and sub 400whp? If they have, i doubt they'd discourage the modification. I'm betting they're only experience with 4.10s is on a 1969 Chevelle with a 4 speed and no OverDrive... (Or similar old muscle car... hehe) The C5 is a much different beast, and 4.10s are not as scary.

I say Do it and don't look back!

Here's another thing to make 4.10s BETTER for daily driving. You can roll/idle in 1st at a slower speed - making bumper to bumper traffic easier to fully engage the clutch and idle along... Also, you have less stress and wear on the clutch, because your friction periods are shorter to fully engage. My gas mileage hasn't seen any real impact on my combined freeway/city driving. I could continue listing the benifits - but you're better off just buying it!

Dan

(Disclaimer: If you've got like 450whp+ the 4.10s may be a bit overkill...)

Default 420 RWHP & 4:10 gears = bib smiles

It makes 6th gear usable!!!!!!!

I would not change it for anything. It's the best mod i've do yet.

I have 3.90's waiting to go in. Looking forward to it. Of course it will be in the spring so all I can do at this point is admire the DTE differential sitting in my basement

vettenuts, is that unit warranteed? Is the clock ticking on that unit while it is in your basement? Usually it starts when you buy it, not when you install it.

Yes it is, but since I store the car over the winter it means I will get two seasons out of it either way so it doesn't make a huge difference.

Only regret is 6200 redline. If you are driving hard, in 1st gear you have to be ready to shift right away since you hit the rev limiter almost immediately.

They are really great for street and drag with milder hp cars. Really depends on what you do with the car and far far you think you will take it in the future. Give us a call if you have any questions. We build them here in house if you need a set done..
