I would stick with Mobile 1 , since it's what GM recommends for the Engine..some folks use Royal Purple and that works too. Maybe next time you make the trip, stock up and get a couple cases, save yourself the trip.
I was wondering if Mobil 1 is better than Castrol or Penzoil? Since I've had my C5 I've had the oil changed twice with Mobil 1. Reason I'm asking, where I live nobody carries Mobile 1 oil so I have to drive about 45 minutes away just to buy the oil and filter then I have to pay somebody about $15-25 just for them to change it I would change it myself but I do not have the equipment to do so. So by the time I buy the oil and pay somebody to change and my gas I'm out about $70+ just to change oil. I'm not a cheap scate by no means I'm just wondering if the Mobil 1 one was worth the trouble it is for me to have it changed. Thanks for you time
Derek
I have been using Mobile 1 and seems to be getting the job done well. I did a ton of research last night and most guys have switched to Amsoil.
I found that Mobile 1 offers a little less protection against thermol breakdown. The difference seems so minimal, I would just go with the one that is cheaper. I guess the additive that AMsoil used to be known for using large amounts of, had been reduced in order to meet regulation requirements, thus making the difference between AMsoil and Mobile 1 minute.
Castrol,Penzoil and Quakerstate, on the other hand, seemed to breakdown at a much more rapid rate and they all offer poor protection in performance motors.
Why not drive the 45 minutes, pick up a few cases and save yourself a few trips. Seems like a no brainer.

I use Amsoil and get it from a guy Locally, but you can order it on line .
I use mobil 1 (Walmart) also ,I put it in ,in the fall befor storage and run it until the weather starts to heat up here in Michigan .
In July .When I put the Amsoil in 10-30
I use NAPA gold filters
Good luck and both are good.

I will need to find someone when the time comes to do tires and pressure transmitters without gouging the wheels. My understanding is there are few (if any) dealers in our area who actually service what they sell when it comes to tire changes, so I'll need to find a good shop for that. Problem is, I haven't had any problems, so I haven't had an occasion to build a relationship with a shop.
I have someone in eastern MA who did my Z16 wheels. Went to him from a recommendation I received here on the forum. My BMW will go there next. No scratches on the wheels and the entire crew is trained on the sensors and how to program them if necessary. Let me know if you need more information. Their prices are darn near Tire Rack too
As for the original poster, I agree but it on line and have it delivered to the house rather than running 75 miles to purchase oil.
You do not have to use Mobil 1. You can use any synthetic that meets the GM specification for oil for the corvette.
UNLESS, its under warranty still, and, you didn't have the mobile 1 in the motor. some have had,........"ISSUES" trying to get the warranties honored
Dude,....just go by the mobile 1 IF that's what you want take it to any quick lube joint and they will charge you typically $20 or something! Ive used amsoil and mobil 1 and now I use mobil 1 cause its easy to find but right now I'm in the middle of the head/cam thing and might switch to royal purple!!
