I was wondering if Mobil 1 is better than Castrol or Penzoil? Since I've had my C5 I've had the oil changed twice with Mobil 1. Reason I'm asking, where I live nobody carries Mobile 1 oil so I have to drive about 45 minutes away just to buy the oil and filter then I have to pay somebody about $15-25 just for them to change it I would change it myself but I do not have the equipment to do so. So by the time I buy the oil and pay somebody to change and my gas I'm out about $70+ just to change oil. I'm not a cheap scate by no means I'm just wondering if the Mobil 1 one was worth the trouble it is for me to have it changed. Thanks for you time
I would stick with Mobile 1 , since it's what GM recommends for the Engine..some folks use Royal Purple and that works too. Maybe next time you make the trip, stock up and get a couple cases, save yourself the trip.

but how far out do you live where you can't get Mobil 1?

You do not have to use Mobil 1. You can use any synthetic that meets the GM specification for oil for the corvette.
I've been using Mobil 1 since the early 70's starting with my very first car, 1969 Olds Cutlass. First time it proved itself back then was in Wasatch mountains above Salt Lake City at -33 Degrees. The other people up there with their 4x4's were building fires under their oil pans to warm up the oil so they could start them up. Even though they told me not to bother with mine, I got in and it fired right up! Their jaws dropped into the snow.
I used it on a VW Scirocco that I put 351,000 miles on it before I donated it, still running perfectly.
Its in both my '99 Corvette and the new '07 Corvette. The '99 currently has 287,000 miles on it and still running strong.
Bottom line, Mobil 1 is good stuff and it works as advertised.

That's what I like to hear......287,000 miles on a 99. What had to be replaced in that time? I replaced my water pump at 116,000. Still have the original starter, alternator, fuel pump, timing chain. Just curious, I plan on keepimg it for a long, long time. 160,000 miles
Seems to make sense that any Brand Name Full Syn should be fine. I do use mobile 1 but its easy for me to get at wally world.........
Mobile 1 also has to bear a lot of advertising $ in the price both public and I'm sure they pay GM a nice buck also..........
I've replaced the water pump, lifters and recently, the MM6 transmission as a whole. Just did the oil pressure sender relocate too as my original sender finally gave up in December. Let's see...I had to replace the high precision steering wheel position sensor, the head lamp switch assembly, the headlamp controller module. Been through several sets of tires and now my third set of brakes(switched to ceramics). Overall, it runs just fine and loads of power to this day. In fact, I'm here at work and its in the parking lot right now. Its my daily driver...min. 120 miles a day, all freeway. Take care of it and it will take care of you. Keep up on the maintenance and do those oil changes!

Don't mean to steal this thread, but it's all good information. Replaced the oil pressure sending unit after 121,000 miles. Had the steering wheel sensor replaced 3 years ago,(it's throwing codes again) replaced the wheel bearings at 100,000 (turned out it was a bad tire) Also did the clutch (Z06) and tranny (which caused more problems than I originally had) and had a 3:90 rear installed. The rear really makes the car "fun" to drive. I plan on keeping this car for a long time, and all your information is much appreciated.
Why don't you ask a local shop if they would allow you to provide the Mobil 1. I often bring parts to my mechanic. They never seem to mind. Just a thought.
Corvettes have the same engine part as any other car they require lubrication just like any other car. If you drove it normally like your Buick or Honda You wouldn’t need high performance oil. The high performance synthetic oil is for that every once in a while that you want to run up to six grand or smoke the tires or if you are doing competitive driving. Or just like to run the crap out of it.
How much do you guys pay for an oil change with Mobil 1? I only have 12,000 on my '04 C5. I've had 3 oil/filter changes and they've all been invoiced at ~$75.00 (at the stealership).
Actually, I haven't paid a nickel yet, since 5 free oil changes was a "sweetener" the dealer threw in at the last minute during the final purchase negotiation.
