I normally provide this sheet with the guys buying the ported FAST from me....some if it doesn't apply if you dont have one of my intakes (with the inserts installed) but alot of it is very good general information for anyone installing one (a FAST intake). By the way I only started doing this a few months ago so the guys who purchased from me before that probably never saw this. It directly covers the concerns you brought up here...

FAST INTAKE INSTALLATION TIPS
**********PLEASE READ**********
1) Do NOT overtighten the (5) bolts that mount the TB to the snout of the FAST. I have installed steel threaded inserts and they will crack the manifold flange if tightened too much. You’re not torquing down a cylinder head….a little more than snug is adequate.
2) Note that the supplied FAST 90 mm O-Ring is very stiff (non-pliable) and once you get all the 5 bolts snug as you continue to tighten them you will start to just bend the ears of the intake flange (in most applications). If you put a little loctite on the bolts you could leave a small gap between the TB and the intake flange because additional tightening will only bend the ears, NOT remove the gap. Snug the TB evenly and then go a little more (evenly) but not so much that you severely distort the ears….a drop of blue loctite will prevent the bolts from loosening.
3) When finally bolting the intake to the heads work your way from the center outward (like the way you would bolt a head to an engine) only snugging the bolts each time you go around. By the time you get the outside bolts snug, the inside bolts will be loose and you then start the sequence over starting from the center once again and working your way out. This may take up to a half a dozen times till all the bolts are snugged securely and none of them feel loose. Go over them one more time making sure they are tight….don’t be shy as there is a lot of thread engagement but don’t go crazy either….a ¼ inch drive ratchet with a metric allen socket works great.
4) Make sure you have NEW intake O-Ring gaskets installed in the manifold….I don’t recommend re-using old crushed OEM gaskets. The Comp Cam’s gaskets are preferred over the OEM versions because they are thicker and do a better job sealing up the FAST intake which occasionally come from the factory with a pretty good warp to them right out of the box. The tightening sequence above will straighten that out leaving you with zero issues but new intake gaskets are recommended. The Comp P/N is 54009-8
5) Do NOT forget to swap the valley tray bolts with the supplied button head bolts (lower profile) that FAST has provided. You will crack the lower half of the intake manifold if you omit this step.
