Default Pull Key Out, Wait 10 Seconds

What does this message mean? Everthing is working fine... It did this after I started it yesterday. I shut down... Restarted... no problems. Should I be worried?

Default Dirty ignition key resistor pellet

Probably the cause for this msg. Clean key pellet with alcohol and see if it fixes the problem. BIGHANK

Could be the dreaded column lock issue rearing its ugly head...much has been written on this topic, check the sticky at the top of the C5 tech pages under steering column lock FAQ's

The resistor pellet in your key is a pression resistor and the BCM looks for that exact resistance! If the key is dirty or the contacts inside the ignition switch is dirty, it will tell you to basicly reinsert the key to make a better connection. The next time it does it, ignor it and try to move the car! The engine will shut down!

Recommend that you clean the old key with alcohol, use your spare key or get a new key. Sometines, you will need to get a ew ignition switch tumbler set.

And if that fails buy a column lock bypass kit.

happened to me yesterday after i had disconnected the battery for about 3 days. i hooked it up and when i went to start it up. that message came up. i thought it was because i had the battery on a slow trickle charge??? Guess i better get the alcohol out and start cleaning.

What year is your car? Your profile says 95. If you have a newer model automatic, you don't need the bypass kit. Update your profile if it's changed.
