Thanks to Bill Curlee for directing me on a good site to read codes.
B2284H is apparently a battery outside voltage range. This must be the reasoning behind my fob losing synch. Good thing to know, I was prepared to pay over $100 for ONE new fob. Something particular to the 2000 vette. Any other year is A LOT cheaper. I would appreciate anyone who can direct me to get one for less.
Back to the real reason I'm posting this thread. I am interested in replacing the battery that's in the car with an Optima red top. I'm trying to find the BEST price and will consider any other batter than someone would propose to be better for a daily driver.
Again, I may not check this post often, so please reply to my email as well.
Some more advice,,,,get a good regular everyday Walmart battery! Hell,,,,you can buy TWO walmart batteries for the price of ONE damn OPTIMA.
The OPTIMA will not give you much more than a regular lead acid battery. As you can guess,,thats my next battery. I'm tired of getting gouged for stuff.
Get a good acid Mat and place it below the battery. No more worries!
I understand what you're saying, but I still don't want to take the chance with a regular lead-acid battery. Especially knowing I could've paid a little more for the added protection.
Before you make a choice, read all of the past discussions about the OPTIMA vs. XYZ brand(s)...there's plenty of pros and cons. I've got an OPTIMA in everything I own and never had a failure. I've been using OPTIMA prior to them even being available to the general public in state vehicle fleet use. The longest one lasted me seven years btw and was still going strong when I sold the car to the buyer.
Also, consider a float maintenance charger for whatever battery you finally decide on...there have been plenty of past discussions on this topic as well...CTEK vs BATTERY TENDER vs HARBOR FREIGHT vs WALMART...
I love my Optima Redtop...perfect match for my red fuel rail covers
I understand what Bill has said since I can't begin to tell you how many negative threads I have seen regarding premature Optima Redtop failures but with that said, I have not had a single issue with mine the past year and a half
The prices seemed to have skyrocketed since I bought mine early last year; I paid $119.95 at a local AutoZone (best price in my area other than Costco). I seem to recall other forum members paying even less ($90.00-$100.00 ). I've been seeing prices hovering near the $150-160 range (including mail order)
Try a local Costco for the best price, followed by AutoZone and possibly Sears.
i was in the local auto zone the other night and looked at the optima's, $189. i think i'll pass on them. i had a red top in a dd for about 6 years and put it in my 00' coupe and it went when i sold the car. i do like the idea of putting an acid mat under the battery, save the frame and the electronics. are they common to pick one up at the lacal auto parts house?

I have a red top in my '02 and searched the internet (used Google) copied the best price, took it to the local Auto Zone and they matched the price. For what is available at this time other than Optima I would look at the Exide Orbital as I believe this is an AGM battery also. I do like Bill's advice on the acid mat.
Spend about $80-$90 for a new AC Delco and get a 50-month free replacement warranty - best in the industry. To be fair to Walmart, I have used their batteries and have averaged 5 years of life from each. However, my OEM AC Delco is heading towards 6 years and hasn't missed a beat. Looking at a recent battery test, you'll find.......
Consumer Reports compared many batteries for grueling tests that included life, reserve capacity, and CCA performance. Their picks are as follows:
Best for cold weather performance:1. Everstart $60
2. AC Delco $90
3. NAPA $70
4. AC Delco (75 series) $90
5. Everstart, (75 series) $60 CR Best buy
"Batteries from EverStart, Kirkland, and NAPA are good values."
Best for warm weather performance:1. NAPA $80 (series 65)
2. Duralast (65 series) $60 CR Best buy
3. AC Delco (65 series): $90
4. NAPA (75 series) $70
5. Nascar (75 series) $40 CR Best Buy
75 Series (the type often used in Corvette C5s) batteries:1. Nascar Select 75-84N (North) $80 Excellent reserve capacity
2. AC Delco Professional 75-7YR $90 Excellent CCA performance
3. EverStart MAX-75N (North) $60 Excellent reserve capacity, CR Best Buy
4. NAPA XLT N75-S (South) $70 CR Best Buy
5. Autocraft Silver 75-2 $55 Excellent reserve capacity
Notes: The best Diehard battery (WeatherHandler 30075 North) came in 9th place among the 75 series batteries. Its life test was below average, although its reserve capacity was excellent.
The best Interstate battery (Mega-Tron Plus MTP-75) came in 15th place. Its life test was below average.
The AC Delco batteries have been extensively redesigned with stronger cases and terminal supports. They carry a 50-month free-replacement warranty – best in the industry by a long shot.
I went with #2 on the above list, the AC Delco Professional 75-7YR ($90 Excellent CCA performance) and a battery mat. I keep it on a Battery Tender Plus if its going to sit for more than overnight (sometimes even then). IMHO, take care of the battery issue the first and the most.
