If it's detonation - what should i do to start fixing it? What causes this? Would i be able to easily diagnose detonation on a Dyno?

There is almost no way it's detonation unless one of the following has occured

You run lower than premium gas

Your car had an aftermarket tune that got too aggressive

You have a malfunction in your sensors or computer.

Long tube headers usually make yuor car run richer, making it even harder to get detonation on a stock tune.

Scanning software would tell you pretty quickly, you don't need a dyno, just something that measures A/F

i have the same tin can noise only when in gear hitting the gas light or hard. goes away if you let off the gas or hit the brake. car is a 97 auto all stock. had the car on a lift today cant duplicate the noise has to be on the ground with restriction. no noise if not in gear or if you try to power brake it . changed plugs and wires thinking it was a ping no diffrence. everything seems tight under the car. is there a way to check the cats? they seem ok when you bang on them . need help out of options
