Default balancer change

I decided to change my harmonic balancer. Im going with a fluid dampner, Im having my mechanic do the job, do I need to supply him with just the damper or is there anything else he needs to do the job, I read somewhere that the bolt should be changed. thanks

You must use a new bolt. New belts are a good idea, I use the goodyear gatorback belts from autozone (don't buy online, it took me 6 days to get them).

You are that far might consider a cam change (if you were contemplating it), timing chain and oil pump while you are at it. Just a suggestion having recently done this upgrade myself. Getting to the balancer is about 90% of the way there anyways.

Good Luck

If your mechanic doesn't know the bolt must be changed, then he likely doesn't have the GM procedures which require several tightening steps and a measurement of crank depth within the hub. Are you sure you want him to change it, its not like the old small block and if he is unfamiliar you can end up with major problems.

I didnt talk to him untill today so I assume he knows what to do . I know he follows the all-data program, last year he did my rear o-rings that were leaking and I was very impressed because I stopped in a couple of times to check in and I thought I was going to have another stroke he had the whole rear cradle out and on the floor. I left the shop saying what the hell did I do? but that was july of last year and if you look underv my car it looks brand new , he cleaned it before he put it back on. not a leak or problem. so he proved to me that he knows what hes doing. hey go to the dealer and ask if you can talk to a vette mechanic and they tell you all there mechanics are certified, il take my chances with someone that ive seen do excelent work. thanks guys
