Out of the blue my 2002 covertable overheated with out even getting on it excessively. Replaced thermostat still over heating. I have an appointment with a dealer next week for the continual Active Handling off-on problem as well (code C1287 or C1288). The overheating is another new one. I'm bummed out! Any one know anything here?
To jump in a bit here. What is the "normal" operating temps that people are seeing? Is 220 really the middle of the range? At what temps so the fans turn on? I have an 02Z.

I recently started experiencing hotter run temps myself. Cruising down the hiway, mid 60' ambient temp and the car is seeing 220 plus ? A stuck thermostat would cause this I assume. It just seems weird... My temps are all over the map. I am hoping it is simply a faulty temp sensor... Going to the dealer soon... ugh ...
You need to clean out the front of your AC condensor. The C5 is a bottom feeder, and will suck up everything on the road. Driving in the Fall when the leaves are all over the road is like using your car for a street sweeper.
Yup, appreciate it. I will be cleaning things up tomorrow. Although the radiator looked clean last check under the car, I will be cleaning things up just to be sure.

I clean my radiators out before each track weekend, about once a month, it is amazing how much stuff gets sucked up into there.
They may look clean, but taking a high pressure air hose blows out all the dirt, sand, small grass and micky D bags and dead miatas that were sucked up into that area.
Theres a space between the radiator and the AC Condensor that you really need to examine carefully. When we installed englandgreens cam, we pulled the radiator out and that area had enough dead grass to feed a good size goat! It was also full of very find sand!
I have had good success removing the plastic cover on top of the two radiators and examining the area. Then back flush with a full stream shot of the hose.
