I am having a problem opening my gas door unless I use the backup release in the trunk. How does the button in the console open the gas door?
When you press the button in the center console, do you hear the 'click' sound?
I have the problem every now and then where the thin plastic string that connects to the gas cap gets jammed in the lock mechanism somehow, and prevents the door from opening. Fiddling with the door frees the jam.
Apparently, a couple of these guys didn't read that you were having to use the release cable so you had to already know where it was. In answer to your question, when you push the button it actuates a solenoid that pulls back the little tab on your fuel door. If the connector has come off the switch in the console, or the fuse is blown, or the solenoid is stuck, or the little tab on the door itself is binding, you'll see your symptom. First try lubing the little tab that locks the door to be sure it's sliding freely. Then I'd check the fuse. Then I'd check the plug on the switch. Post what you find.
When I switched out my shifter, I didn't get the switch plugged in well and the harness unplugged as I put the console back together. Besides the fuse, which is the easy check, make sure the switch connection is secure the test the switch. Lastly, check the solenoid at the fuel door.
Have you worked on your radio lately. I had a problem when I was hard wiring my IPOD. Forgot to reconnect the loop that completes the fuel door switch.
