I am just wondering how loud is this going to make my car??? I have a 2000 6 speed. my fiancee eliminated her mufflers on her mustang gt and it sounds really good. I am just hoping for the same sound. I was thinking about going to the muffler shop saturday and seeing if I can get done cheaper then buying a kit online if I supply my own tips?
GM changed the firing order of the C5's LS1 and LS6 to prevent pre-detonation (and allow a higher compression ratio). This is what made them sound like motorboats. I hate it, GM Trucks with V8's sound better than our C5's. I do appreciate the engineering of it though. Your C5 with straight pipes will not sound like a Mustang's. Mustangs have a very good V8 sound to them, even with the stock exhaust.
DO IT, I did that and it cost me about $200 (my tips were $80 each) and it made the car sound incredible, I now have pretty much straight pipes with headers and it sounds even better

GM's Gen III and Gen 4 V8's all use the same firing order, regardless of whether they're in a Corvette or a truck.
Do you have a c4? Your Bio show you do. A c4 may sound better than a c5 due to the firing order.
I would not do it to any corvette. I think it would sound like some teenagers hot rod. A corvette should have a better sounding exhaust IMO. I also don’t like the popping sound that many straight pipes produce. A light occasional pop is ok but constant pop would be annoying to me.
If you do have a c5 you can do the A & A by-pass (do a search - lots of treads). This is a small straight pipe that connects the curve right before it goes into the muffler. I allows some exhaust to coninue to the muffler at lower RPM but less (or very little) at high RPMs. I had it done to mine years ago (now I have Corsa indys and love them). It don’t cost much and will not pop. It will make it slightly louder at idle and WOT is much louder but not annoying. They are not as loud at WOT as my Corsas are.
Your LSX motor will never sound like the modular motor in the Ford due to firing order. I love the sound of my car w/ the cam and full exhaust, but it doesn't sound like my Cobra used to.... they're both good.
Go buy some Bora Stingers or B&B bullets... leave the straightpipes to the rednecks and race cars.
Hi fearless,
As long as you still have the cats installed, it won't be obnoxiously loud. I did this (stock exhaust system less mufflers) and used resonated tips, and I get nothing but compliments about how my car sounds.
ok, talked to the muffler shop saturday and he said he would charge $80 to take mufflers off, run straight pipe and weld my tips on. I was looking at the SLP Loudmouth exhaust system and that is basically the same concept as removing the mufflers. But alot more money. I am in my mid 20's and want my car to sound mean. I have had some say to do it and some say it will not sound good. One last time to see what everybody says before monday?????

DO IT!!! You WILL love it BUT you will have some drone but that did not bother me
well I went and spent $65 to cut the mufflers off and put some nice tips on with just straight pipe, and I think it sounds really good. I don't know why some people put it down, its the same system as the SLP loudmouth exhaust, just not all the fancy pipe.

Can you post a pic? I've been considering the Loudmouths, but if I can save a few bucks to put toward my heads/cam, I'm interested. So overall, you are happy with the sound?
Buy a good set of wrenches and screw drivers. After a bit of time the drone will vibrate every nut bolt and screw loose on the car including the ones in your head.
Suggest you get yourself a set of QTP cutouts instead.
What about losing power! I had Magnaflows on my Mustang GT & pulled the system off to hear the difference, I had no mufflers and put turn downs on. The sound was no better, if not less pleasing, but I noticed some power loss! I thought these car's, performance cars in general, horsepower was aided by tuned exhaust systems. I heard somewhere that not enough backpressure can cause worse results in the power department.
