Well folks after installing the Cadillac Racing Lifters, 7.425 push rods and Harland 1.7 roller rockers the sewing machine sound has changed very little.
I had several people listen to it and some say mine is quieter then their's or it's not bad..
I guess it's the nature of the beast. It's a trade off for performance and I have to get use to it, after all I did drive diesel trucks at work and I guess I should just overlook this sound.
The car runs great..no noise inside from the engine, just noticeble when next to something or with the hood open.
and all those people say " you need ot check rod length blah blah....it can not be stopped........sewing machine will continue. Mine does it to. I pulled up to a car show last week and a guy goes..."who tighted yoru rocker arms, they need ot be fired!" I tried to explian its supposed to do that....but i finished mid story and walked away....

Funny you should say that..when I was stationed at Alameda Naval Air Station, there was a huge sign that said. "THE NOISE YOU HEAR IS THE SOUND OF YOUR FREEDOM" ( because the local community would complain of the noise from the jets at the base) yes POWER
10W30 Royal Purple the car has 67K on the clock...
I have the new style Yella Terra rockers and I also have part# for lifters are 88958689 It says racing lifters on the box.I just installed a new cam and the base circle is smaller then the cam I had in there.I ordered longer pushrods but did not put them in yet and I'm still using the stock length,I'm also still breaking in the new motor with Valvoline VR1 non synthetic 10-30 racing oil and I have zero valve tick.I don't know if its the oil or not.I'm going to go with Pennzoil platinum when I'm ready,If I get any sewing machine sound with Pennzoil I'm going back to Valvoline. So what I'm getting at is maybe try a different oil and see what happens...............Paul
I just picked up an 03 a few weeks ago, I also have a ticking noise just like a rocker.
It's the idle pully on the top middle of the motor, I can put my finger on it and the noise stops.
I just got back from a trip and plan on a piece of bike tire tube inbetween to stop it.

Yes those are the same lifters I have. Base circle is smaller on aftermarket cams. Mine came out to needing a 7.425 push rod.
So far without ticking you are a lucky man.
I'll be waiting to see what you came up with after the break in..

Nope all my belt tensioners have been replaced. It's valve train noise.
If you have stock components you don't get the VT sewing machine sound.
My car is incredibly quiet. The is almost no valve train noisel. I run Caddy Racing lifters, .110 wall Trend pushrods and Comp 921 springs with a 234-240 XE-R cam. The is in a forged 403 L92 setup.
The amount of ticking sound depends on the ramps of the lobes on the cam. I have learned that if you want quiet then you want stock. I desided I didn't need quiet.
