Pulled valve covers so far. Broken valve spring obvious on #5. I take it that means there was likely piston/valve contact? Going to pull the rockers next and check for bent valves using the straightedge trick. Not sure I want to pull heads on jackstands in my garage.

So! Time for new valve springs at least. Which ones are good?

Supporting vendor, Gene Culley, gmpartshouse.com, sells the Z06 Corvette LS6 valve springs, part # 12499224 (16 valve springs) for $58 plus $8 shipping. These are supposed to be updated/improved (non-defective) springs that carry a different part number than what came in our 2002 Z06s. They are used in 2004 LS6 Z06 and the 2005-2007 LS2.
These are the springs I plan on using when I'm ready to replace them.

If you want springs that are a bit more $exy, I noticed that supporting vendor, diynoob, is running a special on Patriot Performance valve springs.

Cool! Got at least one bent pushrod so far too. That means pulling the heads. Oh, boy.

Why not install all new springs and pushrods followed by another compression test. If it fails the compression test after new springs and pushrods, pull the heads to see how much it's going to co$t you.

From researching the forum, I've found that some members feel like the original equipment push rods are barely adequate (weak) and should be upgraded even when using the stock cam. Others believe they are fine and that it is even preferred that the pushrod bend prior to breaking a rocker arm. Sort of a fusable link.
I don't know what the correct answer is but I'm leaning toward aftermarket hardened pushrods.

Broken spring + bent push rod = piston to valve contact. Sorry to hear this, time to pull the heads and assess the damage.
