IM looking to install an in-dash gps/cd player and am wondering if anyone has installed one in their C5 corvette? Is there any that work better then others, and any that dont work, I have been looking at some that have installed moded dash kits and stuff like that but am wondering if that is the way to go? any advice would be welcomed
Thanks
Unfortunately there is no 1 1/2 DIN GPS units out there. The only way for an In-Dash GPS is to mod the Dash for the Double DIN unit. Pioneer and Kenwood have nice in-dash GPS units. Forgot. There is a JVC single DIN gps unit out there, but it's reviews were not great.

There are a few 1.5 DIN units on the market with the flip out screen. I have the Pioneer AVIC series. Mines an X1R (Euro version) but I think the latest US version is the AVIC N3.
It's a good unit for the price. It gives you sat nav, CD, DVD players, radio and a reverse camera function. You can also fit a voice controller but I've never had much success with that. It also has an opotion to fit an amp or an IPOD.
The down side with the flip out is that you cover the AC vents when the screens out. The upside is there are no mods to the console. Ive seen some guys move the radio and the HVAC to solve the problem.
Its a reasonably complex instal but I managed it so you could too. I have instructions if you decide to go that way. You need a Soundgate GMCRV1 adaptor and an antenna adaptor for the fit.
I just finished installing a Kenwood 7100 double din unit in my car along with 1000w of power, sub and door speakers. Mounted the tweeters behind the door latches. I connect my Ipod directly to the unit and Sirius. It has great Garmin NAV built in.
It really updates the dash which I think is looking a little dated on the C5's.

I work at Bestbuy and can get the dash for cheap, around $600 for the new pioneer in dash gps/dvd.. there are saying it would be around a 4 day job and around $800 in labor.. any thoughts on that?
Doesnt seem to be a difficult job, besides all the sanding that would be involved!!!!

This is my Pioneer D3 that I installed Focal components in the doors and wired it for IPOD (that I haven't bought yet). The IPOD will do away with the single disc inconvenience of losing the NAV disc when wanting to pick my music. IE; The NAV disc can live in the slot. Screw having CDs all over the place. I like the newer Pioneers (Z2-Z3) not needing a CD ROM for the Nav. Or as most will tell you the Kenwood 7100 is probably the way to go and have come down in price even from when I bought my D3.
