please bare with me on this fellas, i know this is an age old question. ok so here is the dilema. i currently have the c6z06 shifter in my 02' z06. im looking to try one of the three following. Kirban, Hurst, B&M. here is where i need your help. can u list what experiences you have had with the following and also how would u size them up against each other in terms of: shortest height, most firm, best 2-3 guided springs, noise, etc. i know B&M has a "new" model shifter out. when they say new model is this just the precision shifter with the insulate tube around it or is ther another one that i am not familiar with. i also would like to keep the c6 **** on whatever shifter i decide to buy is this possible with any of the for mentioned items.
Shifter preference is 110% personal preference, thats all there is to it.
I think the C6 Z06 shifter is the best of the bunch and thats what I run on my car. Most other "performance" shifters may have a bit shorter throws but fit and finish and operating is lacking. Most aftermarket shifters are noisy, notchy, and are going to need adjustments that the OR C6 piece doesn't need.
i understand that it is totally personal preference. what i may like u may dislike. the point was to compare and contrast the three listed above. B&M, Hurst, Kirban..
I have only had experience with the BM ripper and the Hurst.
The BM was much to stiff for my likeing. The Hurst has an assortment
of springs you can to choose from for detent stiffness.
I tried an 06 in a 06 not in a C5. Like the Hurst better.
for anyone who has tried the old ripper design vs the new ripper design, what are your thoughts and impressions? which has the most positive shifts from 2-3? thanks.
Not many people will have actual experience with all the shifters available. You just have to pick one and try it. I went with the Hurst shifter and like it fine. Any shifter that shortens the lever is going to require more force to shift. The Hurst is so precise, I don't know how you could miss a 2-3 shift. The stock shifter was so spongy, I could not always tell when a gear was fully engaged. With the Hurst, there is no doubt.
Most aftermarket shifters should have similar characteristics.
I have the KIRBAN. LOVE IT~!!! It has a very precise 3-4 shift gate return springs and if you miss a shift with this shifter, you need to get an automatic! It's very rugged (you wont break it and it wont wear out! It isnt the shortest shifter in the bunch but it shifts EXCELLENT! I have let a number of people drive my ZO6 and they all comment on how much they like the shifter!

You cant go wrong with a KIRBAN.

I agree. I've had the same Kirban on two z06 cars. It takes a little effort to shift as you would expect but it is very precise. I really like the way it shifts and as said before you will not break this one.
alright. i went with the B&M Precision Sport Shifter. i plan to use the c6 **** on the shifter when it comes in. i have heard of people shortening their B&M by cutting some threads off but if i am using the c6 **** it will be the same no matter what bc of the pre-drilled hole, correct?

The O.E. C6 **** may not fit, it is a slip on **** with a set screw, no threads like the OE C5. There is an aftermarket one you can get that is built specifically for the C5 shifters but I think its expensive.

Many people try many different shifters till they find what they like. What works for one will not be preferred by another. Check the "For Sale" section and try several out. You can always resell what you do not like.
