Default Blackwing cleaning

Need to clean the Blackwing air filter - probably will not oil it after cleaning so that I do not screw it up with too much oil.
How does one clean the filter itself??

The BLACKWING is unique from other after market filters in that it is synthetic rather than cotton gauze.
I'm assuming you're aware it should be oiled to filter impurities correctly and you should use only the recommended oil on the pleats...the secret to oiling any after market filter is to do so on a clean, completely dry filter and oil sparingly. Allow the oil to wick over the pleats, over a period of hours if possible.
Cleaning the after market filters is more generic. You can use the cleaning solution from the kit, but you usually deplete the cleaning solution much faster than the oil. So, you can use a diluted solution of SIMPLE GREEN to thoroughly clean the BLACKWING.
Spray the solution onto the filter and allow it to work. Then thoroughly wash the solution off in a steady stream of water. I rinse from the inside out so the dirt is rinsed away rather than through the pleats. Shake the filter of excess water and allow it to thoroughly dry in sun light or over night. Do not use compressed air.
Personally, I wouldn't use any after market gauze type filter w/o oil unless the manufacturer recommends that. There are some oil free after market filters available.

You can use Simple Green if you don't have the Blackwing cleaning kit. I spray it (undiluted) on the filter and let it sit for about twenty minutes. Then gently flush the filter with clean water from the inside. Do not use high pressure, or you can damage the filter media. Let it air dry. You must oil the filter, or it will not trap all the minute dust particles.

Here's how I clean my Halltech Stinger filter, which is also made of a synthetic material:

The Blackwing is cleaned in much the same manner, although I've seen reference to using only Blaclkwing oil. The Halltech fiter does just fine with K&N oil.
