Castrol Syntec European Blend otherwise known as German Castrol is my choice. If I had to pick another I would go Amsoil.

Mobil 1 5W-30 Full Synthetic with Mobil 1 filter.
Don't use the "extended performance" version.
Good luck,

Oil in crankcase
I use Valvoline VR-1 10W30 conventional oil. It's high in ZDDP and has good detergents as well.

You RP guys need to do a little research...
I put 5K miles on my stroker using Shell Rotella T 15w40 dino oil I just switched to Redline 10w40. Been using the Wix 51042 filter ever since I put this engine in.

You should be looking for an oil that meets the following:
1. 5w-30 viscosity. The "5w" part provides better start-up lubrication than a 10w-30 oil and the "30" part gives you the same lubrication at operating oil as a 10w-30 does.
2. Meets GM spec 4718M
3. Has the API logo on it.
I use Mobil 1----have used it for years in all kinds of engines and never an engine problem related to lubrication.
