Time for my first oil change, what type of oil does everyone use??
This topic always gets lots of opinions from CF members, almost as many as "What wax do you use". I am tired of all this conflict about what Automotive oil to use and therfore am going to start using Synthetic 4 stroke Motorcycle oil in my C-5. Maxima makes a good 10w-40 (I don't like thoses puny 5w anyway here in Florida ). Besides it's got a lot of Zinc in the additive package and everyone who uses Vitamins knows Zinc is good for you.
OGC5
P.S. Here is a secret tip: You can use any Oil in your Corvette that meets the GM Spec.( there are lots) for your Vehicle and your warrenty will still be good as long as you observe the proper oil change intervals and keep accurate records, if you don't use the dealer service dept.
Mobil 1 5W-30 oil with a WIX or NAPA Gold Oil Filter (same one). Have done several oil analysis, change oil at 0 % DIC Oil life left (usually around 6500 miles), and oil still has life left (it uses no oil between changes). Of course my 1998 with 109,000+ miles uses the maximum 10,000 mile oil life, later C5's switched to a maximum of 15,000 miles.
BTW, I previously used GM Premium UPF-44 Oil filters, but was concerned about them being too restrictive. When I switched to WIX / NAPA Gold, I saw 10-15 more psi cold oil pressure. Since the C5 oil pressure sensor is after the oil filter, this means increased oil flow.
