Default Replacing lifters

I'm doing a head/cam swap this winter (Comp Cams XR281HR 228/230 571/573 112 sep and Dart Pro 1 heads). The car has around 40k miles on it but since I'm in there I might as well replace the lifters. I don't plan on racing the car at the track much. Any suggestions on the lifters I should go with?

Cadillac Racing lifters... go to www.ls1tech.com and search for them.

FWIW I did my cam swap at 70,000 in January... no issues 10k later and 3 HPDEs.

But... I agree that if you're in there you might as well but better ones in.

I hope those aren't overkill as I don't ever plan on reaching such high rpms. I can get the Comp Cams OEM style lifters for less than half price of those....what do you think about the comp cams lifters?

The comps are oem replacements, I'm using them on my build (383). I agree the caddy lifters are good but for the price are overkill on my street setup. JMO, of course.

They are more than you need, but you'll never need more

And then there are the Morels. About the best LSx lifter out there, but if you are on a budget just get the GM's.

Comp Cams looks to offer 2 types of hydraulic lifters:

1) 850-16 High energy lifters
2) 875-16 Pro Magnum Lifters

For those of you running the comp cams lifters, which are you running and why?

I went with Manley. Just make sure the lenght matches up with your cam. You might also want to consider replacing head bolts and so forth with ARP bolts while in there.

What length are you refering to? Push Rod length?

Those Caddy lifters have been touted as almost a carbon copy of Morels by a couple of very reliable sources (engine builders).

Stay away from Comp's "R" series lifters unless you're VERY Good at setting the valve lash. They're touchy, and notorious for failure if they're too loose.

I bought the Caddy lifters from Scoggins Dickey for my h/c project. There not all that much money and while you're in there, do it right the first time.

Are the "Caddy" lifters as touchy as the comp cams "R" type lifters? Anything I should be concerned with if using the "Caddy" lifters

I didn't do the install, LAPD did, but the installers didn't mention anything to me. Many people have used these lifters on here. Someone else should chime in who knows more than I do!

Do not use the 875's also known as "Comp R's". Read the fine print, they require a pre-load hot of 0.002" - 0.004" and an adjustable valve train. Crane recently introduced a new lifter that is close to Morel's quality, have you looked into those?

I've found the following would work with my engine (98):
Crane 10530-16 - Crane Cams Hydraulic Roller Lifters
But I haven't found much people running them. Most likely, I'll go with "Caddy" lifters or to save a few bucks the Comp OE lifters. Since there really isn't much difference in price I'll probably go with the "Caddy" lifters unless I discover that they too require a preload and adjustable valve train. Someone on the thread already said they don't so I'm probably Ok there...unless someone says otherwise?

I'm going with the Caddy lifters. They are suppose to be designed to work better with aftermarket cams with different base circles than stock GM. The oiling hole is suppose to be drilled in a better area to make sure the lifter gets a better supply of oil.

There are quite a few running the Caddy lifters now so getting input should be easy. Usually its been more an issue of getting them, a short time ago they actually ran out because they were so popular.
