I have a 2003 c5 convertible with original tires and 25k miles..
My front passenger tire has a raised bump on its wall that's pretty noticeable. I was told it won't pass inspection. Is this something that can be patched or do I have to get a new tire? I have the run flats..
Sounds like you need to get it replaced ASAP ! This indicates a leak from the interior of the tire into the sidewall, it is a MAJOR safety issue and you could have a BLOW OUT at anytime !!!!
Please, please get it REPLACED TODAY if you plan on driving anywhere! CONTACT the nearest GOODYEAR as it may have warrenty left....
I had the same situation with my 2003 C5. In 2004 I hit the edge of a small median in the middle of an off ramp and a bulge appeared on the sidewall of my stock Goodyear Runflats. The tires held the correct pressure and because of the price of a new tire I took a chance and drove on the tire. I knew the tire could not be patched and it was a risky situation but after a few weeks I forgot about it and only noticed it when I washed the car. Well after driving 15000 miles and going cross country the bulge blew out one nite, the only way I noticed it was because a message of, "no tire pressure" appeared. By then I was 20 miles from home and 10PM in the evening. Since the tire was a runflat I was able to drive safely home and then over to the local Goodyear dealer the next morning. I experienced the great benefit for Goodyear Runflats but after 36000 miles I did switch to Goodyear GSD3s because of the better ride. I now carry a tire inflator and patch kit. My advice is that if you can afford it replace it now. Goodluck.

I forget the exact term the tire dealer used last time I had a bulge, impact something. Either way your tire has a hernia (layman's term), it can blowout at any time and should be replaced ASAP. "Pinch shock", according to our friends at MNA!
Good idea to replace both so tread is same on both sides. As far as a blow out goes, they are run flats so unless you are doing 120 in a hard corner it's not going to be a big deal.

Good advice
I had a blow out at 70 with a non runflat. It spoiled my whole day and I'm way over cautious nowadays even with run flats.

One final note: My C5 was my only car at the time and I needed it to go to work the next day so I didn't have time to research and shop around (order from TireRack) for the best price on a new front tire so I had to have it replaced by the local Goodyear dealer who was the only person who had it in stock and he charged me full price for it, $488.00 installed for a replacement Goodyear Runflat. Thus it may be less expensive if you go ahead and order a new tire or tires now and be prepared when the bulge blows out.
Besides the price of the tire the other reason why I waited to replace it was the tire had 70% of the tread left.
I was also advised to replace both front tires so it handled better but again I didn't have the money and the other tire had 70% tread left. With only one new tire on the front right I never noticed any difference in handling.
