Pushrods-Comp Magnums or High Techs
I am getting ready to buy pushrods for my LS buildup. I am looking at Comps offerings and wondering which to buy. What is the difference between Magnums and High Techs besides $15 at summit? They both are 5/16th inch 7.400 length heat treated chromemoly. Why would I need one over the other. The magnums being the cheaper of the two, I would save enough to cover summits shipping/handling charges.
I don't really have to have comps but I have used them in other buildups and have been happy with how things have turned out.
Offer up any help or experience you can. Thanks in advance.
Not sure, check and see if one is heat treated for guide plate use. I also wouldn't buy until you measure, Comp makes lengths that differ by 0.025" above and below the 7.400" allowing better control of preload in the LS1.
what cam are you using and what vendor is it from?? For the 7.4" pushrods, I have used Trickflows 5/16 in. Chromemoly, part # TFS-21407400 .. $86.95 from Summit racing.. For 7.425" I usually buy from Thunder Racing or Texas Speed... If you have a compcams grind the 7.4" rod will work but leave you only .040 lifter preload and will have a slight sewing machine sound..The 7.425" rods will give you a little more preload and make it just a hair quieter. Also I see you have a Z06...Are if your using stock Hollow valves then the 7.4" will be best with the Comp Cam since the stock valves have longer valve stems.. If your using aftermarket heads 7.4" or the 7.425" its up to you..

I called and talked with Anthony at LG and he told me the 7.400 was the rod to go with my cam/head/head gasket setup. I was going to order a pushrod checker at the same time just to make sure it was all good.
Since you say one might be hardened for pushrods, that would suggest the High Techs. I am not going to be running guide plates. Kind of makes it seem the Magnums are the way to go.
Off to Comps webpage and see if they offer any more info.

Here is my combo. I have a 22k mile 02 LS1 from a Camaro SS. It will have 243 heads and stock GM gaskets. Patriot Gold springs. The cam is LG Motorsports G5X2 on 112LSA.

Thanks for the help. I wound up buying the TF brand rods. I looked at them earlier. I have a set of TF heads on my 1970 corvette and they have been pretty darn good.
I try to do everything I can. The only thing I have not done on my 70 is the paint work. I am doing the buildup on my LS and will be putting it in with the help of few buddies over the winter.
I am running Trick Flows myself. One thing to note, the 243's (if they have the lighter valves) have longer valves so you need to factor that into the length requirement as well.
I'm running Trend pushrods I got from Texas Speed. They have .110 wall thickness. Together with the Cadillac Racing lifters and Comp 921 springs my valve train is very stable - and quiet.
