Default Halltech Venom Reviews?

Has anyone fitted the new Halltech Venom for the C5 yet?

If so what are your thoughts? Good or bad?

I'm thinking of taking the plunge

Installed it with Kooks and a custom tune. 350rwhp before and 385 after. Throttle seems real crisp and has really steady acceleration. I like it. Not sure what proportion goes to intake, headers, or tune. I don't think that there is much of a difference between all of the intakes. I bought that one because I like the way it looks (red) and ease of install.

I had mine for about a month now. Looks great, nice fit and finish. This was my first mod. I can't say I "feel" a difference but throttle response seems a bit crisper.

Funny thing, I actually ordered the stinger and the company sent me the Venom, nevertheless, throttle response is better, maybe due to the maf remounted forward of the air bridge right next to the throttle body. I also noticed that my hood does not close like it used to. The venom air bridge is definately larger than stock. Otherwise everything else seems to check out.
Looking to do headers xpipe and 410 rear soon.. 01 pwtr mn6

Any other opinions? I was considering this too, but I'm concerned about it rubbing on the hood liner like some say it does

The same concern was presented years ago when the Stinger was introduced. In most cases, the reason was simple: Either the airbridge or the clamps or both were not positioned correctly. You may have to fiddle with adjustments a bit, but in the end, your hood should not bulge out. Jim Hall has been designing intakes for C5s for many years. He knows what he is doing, at least from what I've seen as statements he's made in this forum.

I replaced my stinger with the Venom. I spoke to Jim about the change
and he informed me of the new filters higher standard ISO rating for filtration. Also discussed the maf location, velocity area of the new Venom. Well, to tell you the truth it does make a difference. Throttle response was better, but when you really see the difference is higher in the rpms. I moved the maf and also clocked the maf blade inline with the throttle plate. I have had the cold air cutout since the stinger.
From 2500 and up you can tell the engine is really breathing.
Dont cut yourself short..............take the plunge.

oh.........and it looks good too!

What exactly is this? I'm installing a C5 Killer Bee very shortly and would like to understand this. Do you have any pictures?

Basically you cut out the radiator shield that the filter sits on,
screen it and install a "scoop" on the bottom side over the cutout
to serve as a direct shot to the filter. I believe that it was Dave68's
idea a few years back. It works great, but for a daily driver you need
to watch your filter cleaning more due to the fact that everything
dirty hits it.

Just installed my Venom yesterday and fitment is pefect. Install was very smooth and easy. Throttle response is much better and I can feel a bit of a difference at 4500rpms to redline too. My biggest headache was removing the stock airbox. The two front nipples on the front of the stock intake were a B@#CH to get off!!! Other then that, I enjoy it. Makes the engine bay look better aswell.

Take the plunge!!!

Thanks guys for the great reviews. What we did was redesign the Stinger mold and lengthen the nose to fit the Killer Bee Velocity Stack air filter on the Venom. Actually, the Venom is the Killer Bee, but utilizes the stock Delphi MAF sensor.

We actually have four mules on the road, that have clocked over 25,000 trouble free miles with the Venom. Only one has our tuning, the others are bone stock.

One complaint about the Stinger was the filter dangling off the end of the MAF. We eliminated this issue with the 2" longer nose, which positions the filter directly up against the front frame, to avoid any of the former issues. All Halltech Filters are now ISO 5011 Certified. Over 99.4% efficiency rated. Here is some additional information on this certification: http://www.halltechsystems.com/category_s/43.htm

We also relocated the MAF to the rear, exactly like the C6 Venom, which has been on the market for over two years. Testing shows a slightly better meter reading at the rear, and I like clocking idea of lining up the airfoil in the MAF with the throttle plate. We did this on all of our installs, but felt it might be too complicated to include in our instructions.

We have tried to make this system as easy as possible to install. I agree that the stock airbox is a son of a gun the first time. The front rubber grommets literally pop off the frame, and can be pushed off by hand or pried off easily.

Bee careful with opening up the shroud for cold air. It works, but can expose you to water issues. Water as in self cleaning and sending dirt and mud into the engine when it rains.

This is why we do not make a bottom breather.

If you disconnect the negative side of the battery during installation, and then reconnect it, be sure to allow the engine to warm up to 175, then idle for 5 minutes to allow the throttle blade to reposition zero. The is known as the idle learn procedure.

The Long Term Fuel Trims will adjust automatically, even without the battery disconnect. It just cleans the blackboard so the LTFs can start clean.

Best,
