Timing chain question
I have a 01 Z06 with the LS6 obviously. I just recently purchased a MS4 cam kit and I was wondering if you guys think I need to buy a new timing chain. If so, which one? I think I used the LS2 timing chain kit on my old SS but wasnt sure if I need one in this car. All opinions would be great.
THANKS

Personally, I would change it while you are in there. The pre-LS2 chains weren't that strong and with some mileage you likely have some stretch on it.

I would definitely pay the extra money for a double roller timing chain like Rollmaster or something. It never hurts to have that extra safety.

An LS2 chain is used on a lot of high rpm engines with out failures. A double roller usually requires the oil pump to be shimmed away from the block, clearancing of the back side of the oil pump and the timing cover.

I think the bigger question is whether you plan to degree the cam (recommended). If so, then the sprockets may need to be changed as well.

this pic doesn't show it well, but there is a very noticeable difference in the beefiness of the LS2 chain compared to the stock LS1 chain

Here's another view. I can't take credit for this photo as someone else posted it some time back and I saved it, but it does show the difference. LS2 on the bottom.
