You really can't test it, until it is bolted up.

You could however disconnect the torque tube and bolt it on to do the test, buy you cannot create enough force to push the hydraulic slave to open the clutch without the leverage of the clutch pedal.

Im about to break down and get a new master cylinder..

I still see black fliid coming out.. Under close examination in a clean clear container, you can see

little black flakes, looks like sand but black in the black flud... Im assumeing the seals in the master were going because I had a pedal problem for awhile..

So ill replace that so I know the "pump" of the system is good, and try a thorough rebleed..

It always recommended to replace all of the hydraulics when doing a clutch job, because it's a beeotch to have to pull down everything again.

i have it on a lift and the tube is on two trany dollys, before i mount the clutch/flywheel, i can slide it close enough to the connect climb up and hit the pedal!

And that won't tell ya anything because the slave won't be pushing up against the pressure plate.

It's like pressing a piston of the caliper that is off the car, it will just blow the piston out because it won't have any resistance.

Just had a similar issue on my Pantera. When bleeding the brakes you
push the piston and seal in the master much farther down and well past it normal travel. If you have any corrosion in the normally unused master bore it can destroy the seal very quickly and cause what yuo're seeing. Just a thought and hope it helps.

Not sure if you caught it in my earlier post in this thread, if you have the old slave why not cut the line and plug it into your master to see if the master is working correctly. Did you only replace the slave?

I replaced the slave but It didnt come with the line, So i Reused it..

I used a mighty vac and this helped out termendously..

The car is driveable now, however the pedeal still isnt coming up more than half way..

This car has suffered this for awhile, and I was hopeing the slave cylinder would have fixed it.. car has 122k.

Due to the severeity of th black fluid, I m going to go ahead and Replace the master cyilder too and rebleed it.. Im wanting the pedal to shoot all the way back up like its intended to..

Do the seals in the master cylinder go bad and cause it not to Return the pedal properly?

Default Malfunctioning Master Monitored...

Here is the inside of a malfunctioning master...

Use the Mity Vac once a month if you drive your car hard.

I use some silicone grease on the bleeder end to help seal the Mity Vac hose. Less vacuum leakage.

Also, a couple of times a year, I have my wife pump the clutch pedal to agitate the master while I bleed the system.

Yes, that's a lot of miles on the stock master. Sounds like a good next move.
