Did a search so if this is a dupe I apologize. Going to be installing a 3.42 Z06 diff in my A4 coupe in April. PN is 12572683. Does anyone know if this comes with the hardened left output shaft? Bought the diff from a GM dealer. Thanks in advance.
I'm going to be well south of that number. I have been told that bad wheel hop can also contribute to breaking stock shafts.
I have heard the same thing. A lot of the guys that are running on slicks or drag radials at the track break output shafts with a lot less than 600rwtq so it really could be wheel hop issues causing the breakage. Wheel hop is worse with drag radials because they have stiffer side walls that don't give. Just my .02.
with the A4, if you don't have a hard-hitting 4000rpm racing converter - using drag radials (which almost makes the car a trailered track-only type car)... it doesn't seem like you could break an output shaft all they easy.

Tony's Corvette Shop in Gaithersburg MD just finished my 3.42 to 3.90 swap. The dif uses the shot peened gears the heavy duty clutch packs and BOTH output shafts are hardened. The cost for the unit is $2,100. Very well done install and am looking forward to driving many figure eights.
