Default Relatively Urgent Help Needed - Service Column

The '02 Z06 is back at the body shop for a hit and run and I got a call this morning that the Service Column Lock message is up and the car won't move, dies at 2MPH. The car has had the latest recall done so they can still push it around the shop to get what they need done done. How can this be taken care of now since the recall was done? Not sure if it was a low voltage situation (don't see why it would be). Is there anyway to reset the message/code?

Hi OldSchoolFormula -

First verify that the 3rd and most recent recall was indeed performed.

This latest "fix" should have eliminated the fuel shutoff that you describe.

In my experience with two cars with the same problem, it required a trip to the dealership to correct this, and to tune out the fuel shutoff etc.

Then I would order a CLB ASAP and get it installed - but this will not correct the current problem you have.

best regards -

The latest "fix" version C was performed, but as I understand it, if the fuel shutoff was previously done by an earlier version, they will not address it.

In the sticky:

Q I had the recall done and now after a few weeks my car is getting the dreaded “Service Column Lock” error message and I can’t drive it because the fuel is shut off. What should I do?
A You have the following choices: 1) return to the dealer and make them fix it; 2) A4 cars - replace or remove the Harness "K" assembly; 3) remove the recall mods and restore to original; 4)MN6/M12 cars only - go into your passenger footwell, locate the relay added by the recall mod, remove the relay altogether and bypass the circuit as described below (my choice).

Q For MN6/M12 cars what can I do if this situation occurs?
A Go into your passenger footwell. Remove your BCM and locate the recall mod relay, remove it and add a jumper wire between the white wire (pin 30) and the orange wire (pin 87). Note that there are two orange wires, so make sure you get the right one!

Can I do this still? This isn't actually my car, it's my Dads and as much as he loves it, hes getting pretty soured by the column lock issues, the reverse lights, the HVAC lights, etc. I've wanted a C5 for as long as I can remember as well, but experiences with this car... not so sure. LoL.

Well, just got back from the body shop. When I first got there you could hear the motor/actuator(?) moving, so I tried to reset the BCM by clearing all the codes, and then removing fuse 25, waiting 10 mins. That did not help. Tried again pulling fuse 25 & 29. Waited 10 mins. No good. Tried again with 23, 25, 29. No good.

Then I tried jumping the relay in the foot well White Pin 30 and Orange Pin 87. Cleared codes. No good. Then I decided to get under the dash on the driver side, removed K Harness and hooked it back up to stock. Clear codes, no good. I notice now that I can't hear the motor - not sure if this happened when I tried to jump the relay in the foot well, or after pulling the K Harness. Hooked K Harness back up. Clear codes. Still no sound of motor. FWIW, it has the white TYCO relay.

Gave up at this point. Now I know why I have an old car with a swapped LS1 and not a Corvette.

The "old man" is pretty fed up with the car now. Between the driver door lock not unlocking with the fob, the reverse lights not working, the column lock issues, the HVAC lights, the button for the fuel door pushing through the console etc etc it has been the worst car he has ever owned electrically. And it only has 45K on it! You'd think it has Lucas Electronics in it.

So, I'm not sure what to advice now. Looks like its back to the dealer for an actuator, or maybe its just a crappy relay? Doesn't make sense as to why I could hear the motor when I first got there and not when I left.

If it won't go over 2 MPH, then the BCM is not getting the right signal from the actuator circuit to keep the PCM from cutting fuel.
Most likely, a Harness K kit was installed as part of the recall, and the relay has failed. You can either have the dealer replace the Harness K kit, or install an aftermarket CLB. Both perform the function of fooling the BCM into thinking the actuator is in the unlocked position.

The Harness K relay keeps the actuator in the circuit so you can still hear the relay cycle, even though the lockplate should be removed so the column cannot lock.
It is possible that the actuator could have gotten stuck while you were working on it and it is stuck in the locked position.

Okay, so today went back, cleared codes, disconnected battery, waited 10+ mins, and then reinstalled a known good battery out of my car. Immediately pull key, service column lock. Where am I at now? Can I just order the CLB from COH and install it in place of the K Harness and be good? Or does it need to go to the dealer, possibly have the actuator replaced, and the k harness replaced before I can install the CLB? No sound of the actuator moving today, either.

Further more, now I'm even more confused with the relay bypass in the footwell, jumping White Pin 30 and Orange Pin 87. Does this allow the car to move faster than 2MPH? I never tried to move the car.

Also, with HPTuners, I know we can now adjust the fuel cutoff to whatever we want, but does the option to make the column lock not fitted solve the error in the DIC?

Just to wrap this up, installed the CLB today, cleared the codes, pulled fuses.. yadda yaddo. And whaddya know, it works. The column motor is dead, didnt make any noise with the cigarette adapter, but it doesn't matter as the lock plate was changed. Good to go!
