Im Thinks About Buying A 99 C5 6speed Conv With 89k On It The Only Problem I Know Of Is Will Not Go Into 3rd Or 4th Gear It Grinds Like Hell And Will Not Go Into 3rd And Will Not Hold In 4th Any Idea What This Could Be Or How Costly It Is Thanks
Holy crap. Unless your going to be getting a REALLLLLLLY good deal,,,,I would pass on it. It sound like you may have a clutch and synchro issue. Could even be deeper than that like bent shift forks. Either way, it means dropping the drive train completely, sending the tranny out and installing a new clutch.
A good clutch like a will cost you $500 - $800 and a trans repair $1200-$1500. That doesn't include LABOR.
You might want to reconsider your purchase. A C5 drive train is NOT like most other cars and not as easy to work on as say older Chevy
