Default Car will not start

I store my 99 Vette for the winter here in beautiful upstate NY. The battery died, so I took the battery out of the car to charge it. When I put the battery back in the car and tried to start it, it would turn over like it was going to start, then die as soon as I turned the key to the run position. Service manager at the local Chevy Dealer told me to try that once and when it stalled leave the key in the on position for 10 minutes and try it again. He thinks it might be the security system in the car. I tried what he told me to do and the same thing happened again, turn over then stall when I turned the key to the run position.
Anyone have any thoughts on this problem??

I would dump the DTC data to see if that tells you anything.

If you don't know how to do it .... go here ....

Post any/all codes and someone can help you in diagnosing them.

I figured it out....
After reading the owners manual a few times, I syncronized the key fobs, (hold the lock and unlock buttons at the same time for 7 seconds until the horn chirps). Tried 1 fob first and the car still would not start. After the 2nd fob, the car started. Both fobs worked after that.
Thanks for the help.

The FOBs have NOTHING to do with the car not starting or starting> So,,,with that in mind,,,you may still have an issue. My thought right off the bat would be an ignition switch issue.

If you didn't see the pull key wait 10 sec, or your security light is flashing at you, it probably isn't a security issue.

Your ignition switch has TWO parts. The ignition key cylinder which has the small electrical fingers in it that read the key pellet resistance & the electrical switch/es section that contain multiple switch contacts that operate during the off run and crank positions of the switch.

One of the RUN contacts may have not made proper contact. Cycling the switch to attempt to start the car numerous times most likely allowed the switch to make contact and resolved the issue for now.

If you have the same or similar issues down the road, you might want to check this out:

Cant beat that with a stick!!!

Have you tested the battery? My 2 year old AC Delco was on a float charge all winter... same charger it was on last winter. I ran the car for a day, it sat for a few days, when I went to start the car, click the key and nothing. I noticed symptoms that led me to believe the battery was not fully charged. Hooked the battery up to a six amp charger overnight. Next morning, same issue... no start. Pulled the battery had it tested, and it would not take a charge. Put a new battery in a few weeks ago and all has been well since.

My 1999 Coupe Does This Every 4 To 6 Months.one Time It Happened At The Dealership While In For An Oil Change So The Service Tech Starts The Car And It Died Immediatly So He Pulls The Key Out And Wipes The Resistor Off Re Inserts The Key And The Car Started Up And Ran Fine.i Think Its That Resistor If One Speck Of Dirt Gets On The Contact The Car Will Die Immediatly.good Luck With This Annoying Problem
