Hey Vet Buddies I Have A Question And Wondering Can I Get Some Help. Well My Vet Has About 98k Miles Automatic 315 Rear End And Some More Upgrades.but Anyway I Need To Know What Cam Should I Put In There To A Piont For A Everyday Ride, And Weekend Warrior. To Where I Don't Need New Springs. Just Stick With My Stock Ones.i Was Thinking The C5 Zo6 Cam.thanks For Help
Well I have a 230/232 112 cam and love it!!! Has a little loppy idle, but great at high rpm's C5 Z06 would be good if you were looking for something very mild with good street manners
Whatever cam you get you will need new springs. Even a zo6 cam has springs that go along with it. They are cheap and easy to do. If your going to change a cam you need to do the springs as well.

98 thou on valve springs YIKES!!!! You have to change springs ,you might consider changing them firrst the old springs fail to follow the cam profile when reved up.you might be surprised how snappy it gets. Valve springs are wear items ,every time they open & close they get a liittle weaker.the cam recommed in this forum post sounds awesome will make excellent power ,you know however there is a cam in it , the z/06 cam excellent also, just the occaisonal shake goood choice for frequent driver. YOU MUST ,HOWEVER CHANGE VALVE SPRINGS. Good luck whichever cam you decide to use the improvement will not leave you dissappointed, when done post a reply.

and push rods. The ZO6 cam is a smaller diameter then stock so long push rods are needed.
Now changing to a Z06 cam may not be your best option. Look at the price of a cam, springs, lifters, rods, gaskets and labor.
There are better cams then the Z06 cam. all new cams will need new springs, lifters, push rods ect.
a Z06 create motor may only be slight more money but much more reliable.
I suggest the Lingenfelter GT2-3....It is a step up from the ZO6 cam, but uses the same springs as the ZO6 cam. The springs are only $60 a set, so you're not gonna go broke. They even sell the cam and springs as a set.
The cam is real stealthy but has increased power and torque across the whole band.
You will also need 7.425 " pushrods to go with it because of the smaller base circle. Lingenfelter says you can get away without the pushrods, but I went with them with great results. (I don't want any lifter noise....)
Valve springs are easy to swap on a Vette with the right tools. While I can see not installing a Donkey Dick cam, there are a lot of options out there that are easy on valve springs without going wild that will perform better than the LS6 cam. Also, don't forget the other way GM got the RPM out of the LS6 cam was lightweight valves in addition to moderately stiffer springs.
PUSH RODS TOO? THAT IS TO MUCK ON A 98K MILE VET.ENGINE MIGHT GOOD OUT WITHIN FIRST 3000 MILES.I KNOW THERS IS A CAM GUYS I CAN USED WITHOUT CHANGING PUSHRODS.I SEE SPRINGS NOT PUSH RODS TOO.

You don't HAVE to change them....but it's best....It's a hundred bucks and absolutely no more work..... Even the ZO6 cam requires them. Any cam worth a damn will have a smaller base circle to give you decent lift. (otherwise it won't fit in the hole!) This requires longer push rods OR the longer valves in the ZO6 heads.

So After All That Springs Have To Be Change Reguardless.
Yes!, the stock springs are really weak as far as how much lift they can handle. They arent all that hard to change out and you can get cam packages with the springs included that are matched to the specific cam you are looking to get. Do you plan on doing the install yourself? If so you will find the springs to be a walk through the park compared to the other tasks you need to complete. Nothing is really hard to do on the car as far as installing goes, just a lot of things to do to complete the job.
