When I bought my 99, the key fobs never worked right. The seller even included for an extra brand new one from the dealer but that one wouldn’t work very long either. They were the ones with the passive unlock switch on it. I would program it through the DIC and it would only work for a few hours, then nothing. I tried everything, brand new batteries, cleaning the battery contacts. I even had the dealer test them on their little fob testing machine (they tested fine).
I did some research here and finally ordered one from a 2000 model without the passive unlock switch, programmed it and it has worked fine ever since. Hope this helps.

maybe the contact there could be a weakpoint?
The receiver for the keyless entry is over the left rear tire.
