I've thought about puttin electric cutouts on my C5 as well but mine is completely stock. (other than borla quads which wouldn't matter ) I had an electric cutout on my '95 T/A that had a nice cam in it, but considerin how in some instances, the C5 can sound like a motor boat with the wrong setup, how does it sound with the cutouts open on a stock engine?
Are there any old school (not electric) low-profile cutouts available? Like the flowtech's but only low-profile?
I would like something with the shape of the DHM cutouts, but that I could open manually with a few wingnuts.
I have had mine for six months or so, and they are spectacular. I had a great experience with Dave, asked many, many questions and got answers until I was comfortable. He sent me pics of the install via email and had responses to all my particular questions about the control switch, reliablity and the tidiness of the install.
All in all, you get everything imaginable in sound and aggressiveness and yet stock quiet if you desire. I love setting car-alarms off and then going back to hush.
I gave $400 for the units and another $325 for outstanding install in MEM
I've had mine on for a few months and I'm very pleased. I would have rather had a much less expensive version with manual opening and closing of the cutouts (but no one offered such in a low-profile design) but I'm very very happy with these DHMs.
I picked up approximately 10-rwhp with them too.
I paid some guy $20 to weld them on to my mid-pipes and I (with some help from a friend) installed the rest of the stuff.
It definitely turns some heads and gets people talking to you at stoplights. Oh, and the occasional car alarm too!
Makes me wish I had gone with a 112 or 111 LSA on my cam instead of a 113...just so I could get a bit more chop to the idle!
does anyone have a video of the sound from the cut outs?? My vette has a nice cam that has a lot of lope in it... wondering if it would sound like a true race car with open headers..
The cutouts go after the cats, so you won't have a 'true' open headers sound...unless you're running OR pipes or gutted the cats. Type "DHM cutout" into YouTube and you'll find some hits. With LT headers and a cam, I don't think many people would be disapointed with the sound.

My are still running strong! I open/close them about 5 times everytime I take it out, if you have a cam be prepared to answer a lot of questions at stoplights

I don't have cats. just tpis headers and borla rear mufflers with 4" quads. so i probably would put them right behind the headers
Does anyone have any pics of the NON low-profile ones installed? There are a couple pics on DMH's website of some that look to be installed on the downward facing section of over the axle pipe before it goes into the muffler. I would really like to do it this way if possible but can't find any more pictures and haven't been able to find anyone who has actually done it to get some more info.

That looks pretty sweet, but I have ti mufflers so that option was no good for me.
Greg O might have a good point. You could try disconnecting your catback to see what the sound would be like...but I would imagine it should sound pretty similar to the other cutout setups.
Also, having the cutouts that far back might help a lot to cutdown on the drone inside the cabin.

Yeah, i doubt moving it back 2 feet will have a huge impact on what the car sounds like compared to the low-pro's on the x-pipe but I more or less wanted it so the exhaust still exit's somewhat out the back of the car and to cut down on drone. My old Camaro had a 3" x-pipe off the headers with Moroso spiral flow bullet mufflers that dumped under the rear seats and it was cool for a while but the stink from the exhaust billowing into the car and the drone damn near killed me
