Default Straight pipes

Will there be an increase of decrease in performance if you ran ppipes straight back without an X or an H.

It will definitly be louder......but on a mildly modded car I don't think you will see any gains from it.

I have TPIS LTs, Random Tech High Flow cars and x-pipe then straight pipes. We saw a 7 rwhp gain from the stright pipes over GHL mufflers

Loud is an understatment. even at idle a converstation is almost impossible. Crewzing and you can for get hearing your cell phone ring, any music or any talking

At WOT ware ear plugs. It is loud under my helmet with earplugs.

My wife can hear me go though the gears a mile away.

Dont recommend straight pipes for any non racing / track use.

Wow, didn't think you would gain that much over an aftermarket catback by going to straight pipes.

NO back pressure - just free flowing exhaust.

But like I said LOUD is an understatment

i ran my 94 camaro to the exhaust shop with open headers... yeah i think some neighbors called the cops on me lolol. But I think you want at least an x or h pipe so they back pressure (at the engine) is even on both sides.

My first trip to test and tune was right after the Mid-West Nationals at St.Louis.last pass(good traction cool air) 13.08/110.23.Blackwing stock exhaust to Corsa Touring on run flats. Made some 90 degree turn downs and pulled the mufflers. Figured wide open exhaust and dropping 50-60 pounds should help. Took it down two different nights with similar results. NOW the air WAS a little warmer,,,but over the course of the 2 nights the best i got was a 13.14 with several more .15 .16.17s with 107 to 109 traps. Weather is getting hotter now,,might take her back a time or two with mufflers just for grins. when the air gets cooler might try both ways again!! For the record I drove it for a week in between trips,,and with basically stock exhaust it wasn't all THAT loud, and you could feather it a bit and not get too much attention.Leaving the track I had to take off from a stop and go by a traffic stop just a few yards down the road!! After more than a week of straight pipes(the wife didn't even say TOO much) it DID make the Corsa Touring sound KIND OF QUIET!!

The biggest problem I had with straight pipes on my 97 was the in cabin resonance at 1500 to 2200 rpms in 5th or 6th gears. It was especially bad when the engine was loaded like when the car starts to climb a hill. I even had something in the cabin that would vibrate loudly at those rpms and it would add to the already high noise level. It became very tiresome after a while and I went back to mufflers. Once the mufflers were back on what ever was making the buzzing noise in the cabin stopped vibrating.

It will be very loud. I liked it for a while on mine but now I think I'm going to sell my Borla straights and maybe try that Granetelli exhaust. Mine isn't really like ear blowing since I have two bullets in the place of the cats but since I do like to take the vette on trips I kinda want something a little more quiet. Here is a video of mine..

YES, My car is still street legal somewhat ( whistling ) so each May I drive my car into my little town to get the OBDII inspection.

Needless to say I dive real slow and not make too much noise.

Sorry I dont have a sound clip. But have set off a few car alarms in a parking lot when I cranked it up

If my car was not a track only car, there is no way I would have straight pipes. Our other vette is a stock vert. that is just fine

You would loose some of the scavenging effect without an X-pipe. Nascar doesn't use cats or mufflers but they have x-pipes!

Just got mine done a week ago...had Arkansas Performance Exhaust pull the mufflers and build me some custom loop arounds so i could keep my aftermarket tips. Also had an X put in. I really love them...their not too loud and the drone isn't bad at all. At idle it sounds sweet, Climbing a hill and accelerating gets pretty loud and at WOT it will make you cream your panties. I love them. I've only had the car for a few weeks now so I couldn't honestly say I can feel any performance gains however, I can manage to spin the tires pretty good at 25-30mph. Jason at APE told me I would gain some low end torque with the straights and some low/mid torque with the X cross over. Cost me 350 out the door and, in my book, sure beats the hell out of spending 1000+ on a custom exhaust system.

Ive been running Texas speed, LTS, no cats, MS4 cam, and borla straight pipes( no cats, no mufflers- straightpipes) as my DAILY driver for awhile..

You will eventually get used to it, and i have been able to talk to people on the phone sometimes its hard, but me and my dad who lives here have both though it got queiter, but really it was just both us used to how loud my car is...

You turn heads ANYWHERE you go with a big cam and the straightpipes..
