I'm coming home from the gym sitting at a light and get service traction control/reduced power. Now I've had the reduced power kick in before but I'm tellin' ya, there was NO power. There is no doubt in my mind that it was divine intervention that got me from that light 40 yards to the Shell station.
I turn the car off and go inside to write down a number, come out, start the car and have full power, no message on the DIC, and a check engine light.
I just came in form the garage from pulling the codes - there was only a history (PCM, probably from the tune a few months back?), nothing else. I reset the history code, fired up the car and all is as it should be. I'm wondering if anyone has had the same/similar experience. Thanks
Just hope it was a fluke. haha. I just fixed that no start issue by tightening up my starter connections. And for some reason while leaving school it did it again. After not doing it for 3 weeks. Did it once and has not done it since. Knock on wood! Good luck!
My cars done that once when my son was driving. Never occurred since and it was a long time ago now. Some things on this car I'll just never understand.

Thanks for the input, it was truly bizarre but as I thought, not unique unto myself.
I would think a reduced power message would indeed set a code. I would suggest you look the code up that you saw... it might be a history, but current to your situation.
I know the feeling! Been there agonized that a few times! You have a 98. 97 and some 98 C5 were known to have defective Throttle Actuation Control (TAC) Modules. The modules would cause this issue. My 98 was the car from HELL and it was so undependable, I was afraid to drive it.. I did find out that when it happens, i could enter the diagnostics mode (even while coasting to a stop) clear the PCM codes and the car would come bact to life!
The fix for your problem is an updated 99+ TAC module. Call Gene Culley www.gmpartshouse.com and see if the TAC module that is in your car is an early one or late one. If it is an early module, I recommend getting a late module. When I bought mine back in 2001 it was $240 his price.
The module is a small black plastic box that mounts on the outside of the PCM in the passengers fender well. You will need to remove it and write down the number off of it. With that number Gene will be able to help you.
I would submit that your car educated you so that you could become such a valuable asset to this community and all those who own and maintain a C5 -
Thanks for your always positive and very valuable information.
best regards -
