No, they're not quite the same. If they were, we'd still call them stock lifters instead of LS7 lifters.

But since the introduction of the LS7 lifter, it has superceded all older part #s, and is now THE stock replacement lifter for any LSx engine.

Which ones contribute to a quieter valvetrain? LS7, Morel, Crane?

Any correctly functioning lifter will likely not make a difference from a noise stand-point with an aggressively ramped cam like a Comp XER.

I based my selection on criteria such as overall quality of materials, design and history of problems. The Comp billets and the Morels are what the offshore boating guys typically run due to the sustained RPM and high level of abuse the motor is exposed to as compared to a car motor which is loafing most of the time (street driving). Not trying to knock the LS7 lifters, but as the LSx valve trains stray more and more from stock components (light, low valve spring rates, lower RPM requirements) then in my opinion, better lifters should be considered.
