Just started on my second Optima Red Top 34/78. My first one lasted a little over 5 years and since I was noticing a gradual lowering of the system voltage, I replaced it before it went completely.

on my 3rd battery since I got the vette in August '05. Not sure how old the battery was when I bought it, but in July '06 I replaced it with an Energizer from Sams club. Then again in July '07 I had to replace that one again with an Energizer replacment from Sams club. Recently had the battery dying and bought a battery tender, don't know if that'll bring it back or not, may have to replace the battery again. Usually try and drive the vette at least once every two weeks if not once a week even during the winter. I have never had such battery issues with any car besides this vette, my GN sits the same amount and only replace the battery every 3 years or so.

AutoZone Duralast. About $75. Good warranty. They installed it in the parking lot at no charge and with a smile.

No. Delco also offers an AGM. There may be others also.

BTW, "gel" batteries are TOTALLY different than AGMs.

I replaced the original AC Delco (that fell apart and leaked the contents all over the wiring harness\PCM) with an Optima Red Top. I got 6 years out of it before it died. I put another Optima Red Top in it but like a few others stated it won't hold a charge for more than three weeks. I don't drive it as much anymore so it is easy for the battery to choke....just ordered the battery tender jr. after a Camaro buddy of mine suggested it. His 69' only makes it out once every 1-2 months so he said it helps out quite a bit. The tenders are relatively cheap too.

Yep, found the battery tender jr. on "that auction place that shall not be named" for $28.xx shipped. Probably end up ordering more of them.
