Default Advice on Valve Springs

I am getting ready to install a set of LS2 heads on my 2000 C5. The heads are new and came with the yellow valve springs. I assume these are the LS6 springs. I am running a mild cam (220/224/114 .551/.551). I am considering getting some Patriot Dual Gold springs, but don't want to spend the money unless necessary. Looking for advice on adequacy of the stock yellow springs with the cam I am running. Thanks.

You can go with the Patriots or use another beehive design such at the PAC 1518. Bottom line is that the current springs won't keep up with that cam. If the springs on the heads haven't been run and you use a correct removal tool, you can sell them fairly easy once they're off the heads.

Dual springs have saved my motor more than once. The yellow springs are barely adequate for the stock cam.

Thanks for all the advice. I will go with the Patriots. I have a standard jaw type, screw down spring compressor. Will this work with dual springs?

If you mean this one, don't use it!!! It will scratch the spring surface. Most of these aftermarket springs have surface treatments to increase life (e.g., nitriding) and the thickness is only a couple of thousandths.

Yes, that is the tool I have. What type and brand do you recommend? Thanks.

Crane tool is the easiest one to use, pricey but it is a nice quality tool. Does two valve springs at once.

Good advice above. The Crane tool is distinctly worth the price (Vinci HP sells set w/air inflation hose too). Please consider a set of hardened pushrods for a nominal price to truly strengthen up the valvetrain. You will have the rockers off anyway so it is an easy upgrade. Like your cam choice by the way...
