Default C5Z vs a modded C5

I am having an argument with someone and I need some clarification. Who would win from a 50 roll or a stop?

A stock 02+ Z OR
01+ C5 w/ longtube and a dyno tune?

What difference does it make? Take them to a track where you can run through the gears at speed and see which one completes a lap first. Its the package not just the engine and if there aren't a few corners thrown in the test is uninteresting. By the way you are forgetting the Z has different transmission ratios in first through third gears. As I said it is the package.

It would be close given different the gearing and weight. All things considered, I would go with the Z.

Until you go cam or gears I would side with the Z as well.

Gear ratios on the LS1 are a big advantage for roll racing (on a very very long closed course that is ). Even so, with equal drivers, it will still be a close race.

In theory... of course...

Haven't seen 360 net on an C5 with headers and tune--I would say Z by a long shot

I would say it is a toss up from a roll but from stop I believe the z would win if both drivers were equal, but not by much. The z should have 10-20hp more and a little lighter. I don't know if I remember correctly, but I believe the coupe had a higher top speed than the z because of less drag or gears or maybe both.

Both drivers being equal, I'll give it to the Z for sure. You would need at least a cam in addition to LT's and possibly gears.

Until a 13.2 car can run 12.4s with only exhaust, then this is an easy one to call.

MN12 gearing trumps MN6 from a roll. I ran an 11.90 in my Z with Nitto 555R drag radials and a Vararam. Good luck.

Gear Ratios
Platform: MN6 MN12
1st Gear 2.66:1 2.97:1
2nd Gear 1.78:1 2.07:1
3rd Gear 1.30:1 1.43:1
4th Gear 1.00:1 1.00:1 <---- Only common gear
5th Gear 0.74:1 0.84:1
6th Gear 0.50:1 0.56:1
Reverse 2.90:1 3.28:1

the Z will win, unless you want to spend $10K min to upgrade the coupe and reduce the coupe wt.

Give me 10k and you would think the person in the z had a hole cut in the floor board and was pushing the z with his feet.

good set of 243 heads( ti Intake & Na exhaust valves) , good cam, timing chain, UP pully, LTs, High flow cats, smooth flow x-pipe and open exhaust, a CAI plus a darn good dyno tune. Suspension upgrade, add up all those part costs

Then taking the extra wt out of the coupe, light seats are a big place, and almost 60 lbs, carpet in the coupe is 60 lbs, the ~ 40 lbs. So yes taking off 200 some lbs out of the coupe takes some money, plus labor Darn close to 10K

That is about what it took me to get to 400 rwhp and 405 or so rwtq

But yes I also like the look of a coupe over the hardtop

and I prefer the MN6 gear ratio over the MN12 ratio. except for 5th gear on the MN12
