Default Help with knock sensor location!

I have an LS2 with LS6 knock sensors with extended wiring harness. When I originally installed motor, I did not know to tap out hole for LS2 knock sensor until motor was install and it was too late. I just mounted them at another spot on the block. However, that spot is now in the way of my fittings for my oil cooler. Still too tight to get in there to tap out hole, so I mounted knock sensor on a bracket and mounted bracket in correct hole. Will this work or does sensor have to be threaded into block? Will it throw codes or am I OK? TIA.

You need to put them in a location where they will actually detect knock. Anything less is asking for trouble. Personally I would mount them where GM did even if it means a lost weekend raising the motor. Better than removing it later when its blown due to detonation.

I read on another forum about a guy that took the M10 LS6 knock sensors and ran an M8 die over the threads. He said he was then able to put the LS6 sensors into the LS2/3 block into the factory holes. I can't vouch for this method but it is something to think about.

Sounds easier than trying to tap out the hole now. I am just curious if the sensor will work without being threaded into block.

Anyone?

100% The Knock sensor circuit and sensor location is tuned to pick up a very specific frequency. If it is altered or changed in any way, it is NOT going to work properly. The sensors response can even be changed by not torqueing the sensor properly. So, using fittings or brackets puts a whole bunch of doubt in if it will preform as intended.

Unless your going to do the job correctly. your cruising for a bruising.

Strongl recommend doing what you need to do to make the sensor location work as intended.
