I have used these and they work well. You just have to vacuum them every once in a while. My first one lasted a couple years and then got brittle and I replaced it.
You can remove the COWL Cover and you will see where the air enters the HVAC System. You can fab up a small filter that will easily filter the air.

Just as Bill has said, you can get savy and do it yourself.
On my Toyota 4Runner, it was time to change and I read (on their forum) about replacing the filter with one made from a home HVAC filter. For the price of one filter $8, I made six to go in the Runner.
You should be able to get in the "intake" area of our system and make a filter to at least catch the big stuff.

I just hand wash mine with dawn and water......amazing how much crap comes out each wash
I could see how you could easily fabricate cabin air filters out of furnance filters. They are the same material as the "v shaped" premium home furnace filters. Just cut the filters to size and use the "old outside frame or some kind of tape" for frame. Those cabin filters ARE expensive, $15-30.
I have not seen what the "air intake" under the C5 cowl looks like, but I think it could be much harder to fabricate one for it.
Can anyone tell me where the cabin air filter is on a c-5 vette? ....thanks much .....Jon
According to my GM service manual, there is an evaporator filter inside the heater-a/c box, if that's what you're talking about. I doubt anyone gets in there very often to change it unless you're in a very dusty dirty environment using your vette for farm work.
