It's really frustrating. I had the battery unhooked for 2 days. I go to pullit out of the garage and it works fine. I shut it off check the codes then erased them. I go to pull it out into the street and it starts stalling again.
Very frustrating.
What should proper battery voltage be to avoid this problem Mine was 12.25 with the car off and 14.7 with it running. If the battery is at 12.25 will this cause the problem.
I feel your pain. Had the same problem with my '99. By the way, low battery can cause this and other problems. Most will tell you that the last resort is to change the bcm. That's what I did two weeks ago.... Knock on wood, but mine has been problem free ever since!
this happen with other Vetters and even thou alot of people point towards the CLB as an answer, 9 out 10 it's gone to be your key cylinder. There's a post on how to take apart your key cylinder apart to service it rather than buying a need one. A new one would have the extra expense of having a locksmith or dealer program the system to match it to the car.
To elimate the shut off all together, is to have the computer programmed to ignore the key problem or the shutoff message. The fuel is shutoff because the warning is apart of the security system. It's sees the issue as a theft.
The cheaper solution is soldering a resistor with the same value or as close to the value that's on your key. If I remember correctly, the resistor doesn't have to be an exact match, there's a little room for range in reading. There're 2 wires(white I think) that come into the side of your key cylinder. The resistor will now act as if it's the pellet(resistor) on your key. Only thing, the resistor will bypass any key that's in the ignition.
I know the thread is a bit old, but did the CLB fix the problem? Our Z had the same thing pull key and wait a few times but once we did that it would always start. Well now that we dont drive it that often, the battery died and after that we couldnt get it going. It has the service column lock etc (when that has been done before at the dealership) Anyway we took it in again, different dealer and after a couple days they said a relay had gone bad. They replaced it and all is good now.
