Just examined the 1998 Service Manual AC Pressure Chart. The MAX Pressure for the LOW side with the engine RPM at 1000, Humidity at 100% and Outside Air Temp at 110 deg is 32 PSI

Yea, it will work but it WILL NOT cool at the proper cooling temp and your putting a LOT of extra wear and tare on your compressor.

I just saw another chart in this post and 42 is a correct MAX pressure AT (2000 RPM) for that specific temp/humidityRPM.

Thanks for the info, may have to bleed some off. Last I checked it the RPM was at idle, around 600 and OAT of 85, RH of about 40%.

The AC light comes on but the compressor is not kicking in.
What line is what in the AC system, there are 2 fill ports, one on a fat line the other on the skinny one, fill ports at the front and back of the engine compartment. Which one do you use to ad 134A?

Chris
I'm having this issue right now, my 1997 C5 AC light comes on but the compressor does not. I checked the system low side pressure and it was 95psi (static) so that seems like it should be properly filled. Can't get the compressor to come on. I checked the relay and fuse under the hood though I do need to check the fuses on the pass footwell. Hoping this is a simple electrical fix. I've just replaced the motor, torque tube, clutch, etc and this is the final piece of the puzzle. FYI I never broke into the AC system so I don't have to worry about contamination, etc.

Check your low pressure line switch. Jump the connector with a small paper clip.

Love your car, nice job! I was told that the switch is both a low and high pressure switch in one, with variable voltage, so you can't "jump" it since its looking for a specific voltage (which translates to below 30 or above 410psi).

I do see that the wires are worn thru the insulation on that switch so I will see what I can do to troubleshoot that.

Problem was the connector to the AC clutch. If anyone has similar problems to what I indicated, look for a break in the wire there.

Symptoms: AC light ON, no AC, clutch does not engage, plenty of R134a in system (95+psi static).

Default No A/C

I am having same problem. just had new engine put in car and the outside air temperature sensor quit working a few days later. shows outside air temp of 65 and it is well over 90 here in florida. needless to say the a/c no longer blows out cold air. I disconnected the sensor and it still shows 69 outside and the a/c still does not blow out cold air. any other ideas? I looked at the plug and its in good shape, no cuts or corrosion anywhere. HELP, i need A/C!! I have a new sensor coming in this afternoon but I read that if you disconnected it then the a/c would start working again but its not
