Ok, I've been hearing this sound for a couple days now. After about fifteen to twenty minutes of driving, I hear this sound coming from my passengers side rear.
I stop at the stop sign one block from home and as you slow down the sound gets louder. It sounds almost like a squeeking, grinding sound that gets more profound the closer you get to a complete stop. I know it's brake related cause at the stop sign, I would fully depress the brakes and I could actually hear the rear passenger side brake pressing down.
I felt the rotors and they were hot!!! So I waited about ten minutes and felt them again and they felt smooth all around. I checked the brake fluid and it was almost full so I added a few ounces to the line and went out for a drive the next day. Samething this morning. It was perfectly fine until about twenty minutes of driving (all city driving I may add). Once I got closer to home, samething again. Opinions please..... pads, rotor, caliper????
I checked both rotors and they are about the same thickness. Maybe a milimeter here or there but thats about it.
Oh yeah, one other thing guys. I've never had to replace the brake pads in my 'vette. Do the calipers use regular sockets or do they use those same traditional hex-head type bolts?
Set of open end wrenchs is all you need. One to hold the inner bolt from turning then one to turn the outer bolt. You can just pull the lower bolts on the front ones, then slip the caliper off the upper slide pins.
Rears you have to take both off (brake pads have little ***** on them ).
