Why not? Gm surely wouldn't bump the hp 20ish from one year to the next right? Oh wait they already did that to the 02's VS the 01's ;)
Given the 3rd Generation 2003 Viper that will be released this year with 500hp and 500 fp Torque, this makes great sense! The proposed price for the 3rd generation will put it solidly in the Z06 price range and be a Roadster to boot
Personally I still prefer the "older" Generation Vipers to go with a C5 Roadster :D , but I think the 3rd Generation Viper will be attractive to Z06 type customers. Just my $.02
There is no reason to to up the horsepower nor is there a pressing reason to.
The C6 is too close to take the wow out of the release, the LS1 doesn't change either. Next year is 50th Anniversary release and it's an LS1 with the same 350 HP as it has been.
The C5 hasn't been an up the horsepower every year deal.
oh gosh... not another Its a done deal you can take to the bank rumor thread.
Why is it that these "sources" always prove wrong once GM themselves releases the finalized specs?
There would be too many "new parts" needed to squeak another 30hp out of an engine that was already tweaked once already for the '02 model year. I don't think GM will want to spend any additional monies for new parts on a 6 year old C5 model.
it's funny.. everyone worries about the Vipers have so much more power or whatever.. Right up until the time it's time to TURN. Viper may be a great straight line car, but there is more to life than drag racing.
The reason the 01 Z's only had 385 is because at the release the car wasn't done yet. The extra year gave them time to finish it like they had originally intended which was 405 HP. They had a reason to bump it up another 20. This year I don't see one. Who knows though. GM typically moves at a sloth's pace so if it happens I'd be surprised....
I would bet the farm on it. I just think people on this forum should know before they take a huge loss on their current vehicle to buy an 02 Z06. Dont forget the 03 Cobra Mustang is coming out with 390 reported HP, and with no F-body to go up against it, what does the General have left to spank it?
I could definatly see 435HP for the C5 Z06 since its an anniversary year. Could even quite possibly be a 6+ liter engine based on the current 6 liter GEN III truck displacement.
I had someone who tests drivetrain components (a manager) for the C6, and he said they are testing them for:
