I have removed the guage cluster on my 2000 C5 Corvette but I still can not remove it for it's mountings. Has anyone out there did this before? Here is the issue. I have removed two of the three nuts\screws and Ionly have one left to remove. Looking in from the drivers seat, it would be the one on the right hand side. There in noway to get a tool\wrench in on that nut. It looks to me that the whole upper dash board will have to come off to get at it. I ahve not be able to pop off the surround\trim on the upper part of the HUD. The one that you can see on top of the dash. I have been prying on it, but I am afraid of breaking it. Not sure how to remove that as well. If anybody can Please Help. Thanks Slick...
Not sure exactly where you snag is. Do a thread search on HUD installs. There is a step by step post with pics. I used it to do my HUD conversion and its very complete. Even for a dee de dee like me.
Hope this helps. If you can describe what you've removed so far I may be able to help more, but without pics to see your progress- it's difficult.
The pics in the manual only show two fixing bolts. It does however suggest you take the dash pad off. That may be causing the obstruction.
Dont forget this warning when you get it off
Notice
Whenever the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) is removed from the vehicle, DO NOT set the IPC on its face for more than 15 minutes or damage to the fluid filled air core gages may result.
I gotta watch/bookmark this one,,I have the infamous"my HUD has fallen and it can't get up" syndrome,,and have to get it out to fix the pivot pins. An upcoming winter job,,for now I'm tracking down the basic TC/abs/Active Handling code culprits,,but at least I can drive it in between tracking sessions!!
Ok OK thanks for all the help guys, but I got this one licked. I was going about it all wrong. I was able to get the dash gauge cluster out and I was going in strait through that way. The bolt I was having trouble with was under the dash pad, and I just knew taking the entire dash pad was not the way. BUT I was wrong. After receiving the step by step instructions for another member, I was able to see the error of my ways. Even though this HUD is under the dash and behind the gauge cluster, you have to start taking it apart for the center console. Move your way up to the stereo and then remove the whole dash pad…. Freaking incredible. BUT very EZ to do. It took me about 10 hours in all and I was able to fix my HUD myself. All that happened to my HUD was a pivot broke off. It was made out of plastic. All I had to do to repair this HUD was drill out the spot where the pivot was and replace it was a small screw of the same size, and it worked like a charm. I was very happy, because I was able to put my car back together without having to wait to ship my HUD out for repairs. Plus it saved me a bundle of money. Once again I would like to thank everyone for helping me out with this issue. This forum and it’s members are the greatest. 2000 C5 Convertible, Stockton, Ca.
