I will admit I honestly don't know how they are still in business with the way the economy is and with so much competition out there from companies (many of which are forum supporting vendors). I think Ecklers is hurting more the Mid America (mostly because their customer support and shipping/delivering services have suffered immensely).
I often right now, just like you, will use their catalogs only as a reference to see if there is anything new coming to the market. Ecklers is pretty good for that. I then usually do a search on the net and find the exact same part from another company. A company that I know has the part cheaper and has a much faster turn around.
Mid America I find puts out their catalogs and usually 9 times out of 10 has almost nothing new in them. If anything they are now pushing their items (Performance Choice) (buying them from an outsourced vendor) (china usually) and almost making the product still look the same as when they were quality products (TM) and made from a better country with quality control (USA, Japan, Mexico and even Taiwan). Case in point, really look and you will see in their catalog, how they are now offering a lot of their products at a new "reduced prices". If they give you a description you might catch it there...that they have swapped it (bait and switch). Their wording is quite clever most of the time but ultimately you find out once you get it, that the product looks almost the same as an original but that it's coming from usually China. Be careful with car covers especially. They use to sell the "Coverking" "Stormproof" registered TM car cover for like $289. Now they have switch it to their "Performance Choice" Stormproof car cover and it's selling for $265 (so it's an inferior China knock-off.)
So yeh, I don't do much business with those guys anymore...I have had better luck with our vendors here on the forum and using the net as a search engine. If Iam going to get made in China stuff, I want to pay the cheapest prices (as I'll probably have to buy it again later on down the road) and I want to know beforehand what Iam getting. I don't like companies that use bait and switch and aren't honest with you up front.
Just my opinion
Jeff
